I missed you, but then I took a break too.

As Japan, I have come to the conclusion sinking the POW in the opening days of the war is far more important than the Pearl Strike. Most AFB's won't use the greater search and ships aggressively that remain alive from Pearl.

Much like how losing the KB accelerates the Allied offensives, losing the POW really lets Japan run much more aggressively early on, and unlike AFB's using the Pearl forces, almost every JFB will do it.

If you want to save the POW, you need to disband her in port, the closest port possible since there is only 1 movement phase day 1.

The butcher's bill for turn 1. By the look of it my opponent is focused at preventing anything escaping from the DEI.

Looks like there will be no Vendetta for the loss of TF-Z, as the vendetta already sank. Welcome back and looking forward to seeing how this unfolds.

Cmdr Alamander is coming in low and fast, making a beeline for key islands while ignoring others. Looks to be trying to set up air search and grab the oil ASAP.

Here is the mini-KB with plenty of other ships.

The war is going predictably for the Japanese at this point. Glad to see an excessive waste of ammunition in this encounter.

The KB is above Singapore supporting a 2nd day Mersing invasion while Alamander seems intent on taking Northern Borneo by day 3 :]

I'm looking forward to this one. I'm wondering if you could reduce the size of those photos, though?

Cheers,

My opponent is going to have a hard time figuring out what happened here as I dont have fog of war and it appears to be a game glitch.

A combat just occured this turn in the morning reaction phase where the CA Houston engaged several ships at Brunei.

Then magically the houston teleports 19 hexes away into the Manila port with only 200 Ops points used, fully fueled.

Dec 23, 1941 About 2 weeks into the war. Allemander is killing it and has taken islands of the north coast of Australia already although the main oil centers of palembang and balikpapan have not been invaded yet. Singapore remains allied at this time.

I have managed to kill a small empty convoy of ships near Brunei. Allemander put a torpedo into one of the Australian heavy cruisers. Otherwise it has been the usual fleeing of the great horde of ships and associated dismemberment.

Allemander has judicious use of his carrier fleet and is hard to predict movement. I lost several CAP opportunities due to him resting pilots after sucessfull ship attacks.

Ship losses have been heavy due to the first day attack on Singapore by the main carrier fleet. Given the setup I did adequate in evacuating ships. There are over 200 rescued from the DEI, mostly bigger, faster cargo and troop transports.

I have managed at this point to keep the Houston and Boise floating, they were the ships that got into a fight near Brunei after the Japanese had already unloaded.

Japanese ship losses are almost non-existent. My subs have been busy but he escorts all of his convoy's well and my sub skill/rating sucks. Got a shot at a light carrier but of course missed with one of my dutch subs. A handful of subs are returning for repairs as he has proven able to hit them even if they cant hit back.

Looks like he has taken bases deep that will give him level 3 airfields to base torpedo armed long range naval air units from and search float planes so he can dominate the area and discourage any of your surface forces from venturing forth to stop the invasions, especially in DEI and northern OZ. If his KB is still in the Malaya or DEI area that gives you a freer hand in South, Central and Northern Pac ti run in supplies, fuel units and aircraft. Maybe even a raid into the Northern Home Islands to go after strategic points at some of his cities that product engines air frame or future R&D. Also he will have many convoys running supplies in the area mostly undefended. Take advantage of his carriers being so far away, as it is a points game, VPs, and you can wrack some up on your side of the abacus that way.

Taking Bif's suggestion to heart I send a destroyer group to Shikuka. Before they had even arrived 2 of the ships system damage was in the teens and they all had 4 engine damage. I considered aborting but had them stop at Shikuka before I was planning on withdrawing for repairs. Fortunately they found ships in port.

So the Japanese admitted to 75 points in naval kills. Hopefully a few more go down but he was seriously kicking my butt in naval points and even though my subs have been really active they have been really unlucky and/or deployed poorly to sink many ships.

I dont think I am going to get lucky and find him this unprepared again. The destroyers did find a minefield and did detonate 1 mine along with all of the other combat so it is risky to go into port.
