Hi,

Seems like in most games power is among the last techs you discover. Which stops you pretty much dead as far as development.

Can't build BP buildings
Can't build Industry
Can't build most QLL buildings
Can't mine for resources
Can't Farm for food if you need domes

With lack of food and minerals you can't build a real army.

Current game I'm on turn 40 with no power tech, focusing the departments for discovery from the get go.
Sure I'm on slower tech rate, but being stuck in the stone age is getting old.

We got diesel engines powering our truck/tanks why not use it on buildings to??

Yeah I think basic power plants should be a TL3 starting tech otherwise if you are unlucky with discovering a power tech you get very screwed.

This happened in my first game. Real pity because I loved that planet.

I realized that it was going to be probably 20+ turns until I could solve the power problem, and by then the other major faction that was still left would have destroyed me as they were already much more technologically advanced.

Not a mistake that I will ever make again, but it's currently too easy to totally screw yourself the way the tech tree is right now.

I didn't discover any power generator until about turn 50 in my first game. Bad luck on the discovery rolls, and it already took me a while to realize I had to found an economic research council. Luckily I had a few hex-bonus power generators I could go to war for, but it made my early economy a real hell.

I don't think they need to be a starting tech, but they should be already discovered at the start or at least have a huge hidden discovery bonus so they're one of the first techs discovered.

Really like the idea of having it discovered from the go.

It would mean you actually have a reason to put some point into research and not just discovery from the start and you're still incentivized to get Solar, since it's better in more or less every way.
