This may be old news to some of you, but it appears that SPCamo group have called it a day with the development of SPWW2 and SPMBT.

There will be a further update for each, then no more.

Whilst I don`t play SPWW2 much, but enjoy SPMBT thoroughly, I would like to applaud the work that the group has done.

They sure have done amazing work.

Eventually though, everything becomes "finished".

With some luck, they might be around to lend a hand with other programs that might benefit from their skills.

I´m a big fan of SPMBT, don´t have time to regularly scan the newsgroups though, so I ask "why"?

I had a lot of fun with the mod so far.

Big "Thank You" to the SPMBT crew and community BTW!

The SP Camo team did a great job in updating SPII with SPMBT.
This was a vast improvement over SP II. Thanks for all the great work. Good luck with any future ventures.

I'll add my thanks to the SPCAMO group. SPMBT is a great game.

I haven't played SPWW2, only SPWAW. I realize there are strong opinions/preferences for each (although I would guess that the latter would be much more strongly represented here, lol). Can anyone compare the two objectively? I ahve downloaded SPWW2 but never even opened the zip, just never had time because I've been playing SPWAW, but I'd like to hear what people think the strengths/weaknesses/differences for each are (without getting too partisan and crazy). I assume SPMBT is a modern timeframe game, right?
Thanks
Tim

TMAC SPWW2 only has one failing, it retained it's DOS origins while SPWaW became a windows environment friendly game.

SPWaW is based off the Steel Panthers III Brigade Combat engine so it is a different beast more or less.

In SPWW2 you get more elevations, larger unit mixes larger potential maps. Basically design elements that some will prefer enough for it to matter.

The game retained the look of the earlier SSI release as well.

But it is in no way inferior in any manner.

I can honestly say, you owe it to yourself to test it out.

But don't waste sleep trying to compare them with a which is best perspective. Not possible.

It would be nice if matrix let them have SpWaW to make a modern version of it

At the SPCamo home page they have info regarding the improvements that will be in the last update. One of the new icons looks like a V-22 Osprey! For WWII I prefer the SPWAW, but I think SPCamo did an excellent job with SPMBT. The larger maps help a great deal when using modern weapons, especailly for helicopters. As I said in an earlier post, this is a vast improvement over SPII. Thanks alot guys!

SPWaW could likely be modern, but then again, SPWaW was built from Steel Panthers 3 Brigade Combat which had modern scenarios for it.

The problem is the software is designed differently.

The SP Cammo group differs in design preferences issues though (it's why there is SPWW2 and SPWaW, there was a split in the individuals visions of the better game involved).

I am sure if SP Cammo was even remotely interested in making SPWaW into modern, they would never have spent the time making the update to the original Steel Panthers 2 Modern Battles.

All things considered, SPMBT is a fine modern version. There is very little reason to fuss over making SPWaW into modern.

SPWaW differs from SPMBT in a few ways, but not enough to merit a person killing themselves over it. By the time Matrix or anyone could make SPWaW into modern, they could just as easily give us Combat Leader modern (which we are all awaiting for at any rate).

SpMBT is ugly to look at

The graphical improvment would be worth it

Well as graphics go, SPWaW is hands down better visually in almost every respect. But some of the features of SPMBT are critical to the fans of it.

But as I say, a person would have to have waaaaaaaay to much time on their hands, to think it was worth it to alter SPWaW that much, when everyone has every reason to assume Combat Leader will come out soon.

Part of the problem though, is again, the core software is not identical to the core SPMBT software. It's not just differing graphics images.

From what I understand the graphics, OOB, and maps, etc will be much more impressive in CL due to the fact they are using a more modern game engine than was used in the SP series of games. This will allow for greater detail. We have SPMBT, SPWAW, and SPWW2 to keep us busy till CL comes out!!
