Or unluckiest. I read about someone on the boards who wiped out his HQ and lost the turn on turn 1 with a misplaced heavy bomber run. :o

I have to say I've gotten a few lucky shots now and again. I've seen my units OP-fire more than they should have been able to IMO (6-7 times as units continued to rush up/fire on it). I’ve gotten lucky shots at LONG distances with SiG I’s. And on occasion I’ve rallied back from 99 suppression with a crucial unit.

This morning (prior to work, shame on me! ;)) I had another. I assaulted an American “Jumbo” tank with a half-dead recon team! They were running in to scout the FEBA (we still held victory hexes, but the units that were there were no more), and ran right up to a tank, that spotted and shot them. One was killed and the other suppressed to 40~ish. He rallied, and rallied again, and again, and again! I was going to sacrifice the last man to use up the enemy’s OP fire, so I clicked on it again so that it’d shoot it’s rifle and vacate the map thereafter. I wasn’t even paying attention to the suppression levels, just saw that he had a shot left. He assaulted (with something like a 2% chance) and BAM!!! Jumbo destroyed! That was the best value per point I’ve ever spent :D.

Someone IIRC killed a Tiger with a Sniper, they may have gotten a better value/cost kill, but it’s close. In the same game my SF happened (lucky planning) to arrive next to a Jackson TD and SPAA half-track. It was a “rough” hex far in the enemy’s rear, and I assaulted the Jackson (with something like a 92% chance) it was killed. The HT attacked me and killed one, suppressing but not causing the unit to flee. It rallied, and assaulted again (with a 72% chance) and killed the HT too!! Of course, the enemy swarmed over the location and eliminated my SF squad during his turn. On that same turn, another squad appeared between a 40mm AA gun and a MG position. That didn’t go so well.

I was rolling eyes on my first turn, afraid that the battle would be a bad one for me since ¼ of my heavy artillery was OP-fired and killed in before I got to act (never firing an opening barrage again). The worm has turned for the moment…

On that note, if you are in the SF situation described above (appearing between two enemy units, AA gun/MG or MG/SPAA) what would you do? Sit tight? Hope you don’t get spotted? Wouldn’t the “*” give you away? Attack one knowing the other would kill you? I chose the latter. Any suggestions?

In an online game a zis-3 gun destroyed 3 Tigers in 3 shots during the other player's turn. It totally reversed the battle.

EDIT: Correction, it was PBEM. How many players would not have replayed that turn?

I got a Tiger with a sniper assault.

I also killed a Pz Luchs with an shot from a Garand rifle at 150 yards!

Unlucky is always when those **** enemy tanks rip off 10 op fires in one turn. You have to keep coming at them figuring they aren't going to be able to op fire again, but they do and do and do.

As for the AAA or MG dilema, I'd go for the AAA because it is more deadly to your valuable armored assets. An MG isn't going to do much damage to you unless an unlucky squad gets caught out in the open moving at high speed.

I was the one wiped out before turn 1, by a heavy bomber strike that went in the wrong direction. (It wiped out every unit I had...to the last man)

On the plus side, I've had snipers take out tanks before, but in a game I'm playing now I have a Japanese SNLF squad that just took out three British AC's with one shot of their 50mm mortar. :)

This one is a real knife-fight. Japanese assault vs British defend, 8/43, visability of 3, and 9,000 points on a very small map. I just broke through his mines (AI Brits) and I'm starting to take some VH's, but the AC's are everywhere!

:)

As I said, the AC's are all over the place. I think the AI bought 5k worth of the darn things! The three I got were sitting stacked 9 deep on a VH. First shot with the mortar, from two hexes away, and it was just a series of damage reports and "destroyed" reports. I doubled that unit's ration of sake for tonight. :D

Actually a "Z" key bombardment of a stack containing two Jagpanthers and a King Tiger. The two Jagpanthers were destroyed and the King Tiger IM'd. That's back when engineers were king. The newer versions seldom allow transport and bombardment with Flamethrowers.

Lately I consider it lucky just to kill something farther away than ten hexes with an ATG that has been sitting for two turns.

My luckiest moment. I was just playing (PBEM) the Kursk scenario (by M4 Jess) with my brother. Me the Ruski's and him the German's. He was literally kicking my butt. Personally I think there is something wrong with the scenario as when my brother was taking his turn, my tanks rarely if ever returned fire on another tank when fired upon, and no matter how close or how far. They would however return fire from other vehicles and infantry. So my tanks were just getting picked off one by one. It was frustrating to say the least! I don't mind getting beat, but just let it happen fairly. Anyway, the Germans quickly get to the center of the city and destroy my command squad (Unit A0). For armor I had 3 T-34's and 2 Grant Lee's left. After taking my turn (turn 15 in a scenario that was supposed to last for 40 turns) the game ends it and declare's the battle a draw!!! So I was frustrated but glad to be able to call it a draw. Anyway this 40 turn sceanrio was over in 15 turns!! Although I could have held out for another turn or two, we speculate that the killing of my unit A0 caused the game to terminate. (Any thought's would be appreciated)
