Do anybody know how the game decides which position is senior to other when you promise better jobs for the leaders?

SHQ being senior to OHQ and ministers being senior to advisors are quite clear, but how does the HQ jobs relate to ministerial, advisor and governor positions and are advisors senior to governors?

Does the game consider a governor position for larger city as better job or equal job than governor position for smaller city?

Also are there differences in the seniority of ministerial positions, for example is the Director of Supreme Command Council better position than the other minister positions?

In the beginning I thought that the promise of better position was only a way to mitigate the relation penalties with higher PP cost, but that was sure way to lose your word score fast...

This chart from pg 253 of the manual is the key:

5.8.2.1. Job Prestige

Job Prestige
Reserve Pool: 0
Governor: 40
OHQ Commander: 40
Advisor: 70
Secretary: 70
SHQ Commander: 100
Director: 100

Thanks. I had completely missed that in the manual and even when I tried searching it with the find-command.

Just for clarification:
- So nor the wage, city size or Supreme Command Council affects the result?
- Can you promise "better job" and expect to keep your word when the job is from same tier?
- Why does the popup from leader "relation" give quite random-looking numbers for Job Prestige?

I'm pretty sure it's based on just those prestige ratings, and as such a lateral move instead of a promotion should be considered a bit of a fib. As to last question, I'm not sure.

Because how happy they're with their job's prestige is based on their Ambition personality stat.

I think I figured out the Effective Job Prestige Formula:
100 + [JobPrestige/2]-[Ambition]
max 100

Thanks for clearing that up.

Last question about the subject is how many turns do you have to keep up your promise, as there are situations when you would like to replace science director (etc.) this turn before that new project and know you will start a new office in few turns, but don't have open jobs right away.

So is there a limit at which time period you must fill your promises, is it right away next turn, in few turns, or do the leaders keep happy about your promises of future better jobs ad infinitum, just as long as you don't give them worse jobs than promised?

PS. Sorry for the dumb questions. If the turn change wouldn't take so long, I would have probably tested the workings myself.

I would like to know that myself. Does it appear as a "Demand" on the Demands overview?

I never tried to give that promise, as I had no idea if I could keep it.

Also, what happens if I manage to retire or assasinate the guy?

Doesn't show on demand at the same turn (no promises made), nor the next turn, so it must be a personal promise not shown for the nation or perhaps a bug. Might be worth mentioning to some devs for easier time to keep track of the promises made...

That assassination is actually quite good question, as then you could just get rid of your bothersome faction leaders by promising them better jobs prior to assassination... And even possibly improve your word score in the process. :D

I usually run my new ministers early game trough the advisor post at which point I promise them better jobs to run my word-score up for the director bonuses that come from increased relations that better word score creates. Your word goes up by 5 points by every kept word in better jobs promised.
