SC Historical Flag Mod ---------------------- This is essentially my Historical Flag Mod for WIE expanded and adapted to WAW. It is a graphics-only mod, and will have zero impact on any game that you're playing (apart from aesthetics). Changes were made to the flags and roundels of the following countries for a variety of reasons: Algeria, Australia, Kenya, Belgian Congo, Borneo, British Somaliland, Brunei, Germany, India, New Zealand, New Guinea, Nigeria, Poland, Rhodesia, Sarawak, Solomons, and the USA. The adjustment to the Algerian flag is not strictly historical (though it uses historical symbols) and is intended to avoid confusion with all of the other French tricolors out there. The flag of the Anglo-Egyptian condominium of the Sudan never existed as a single flag. There were always two flags flying in front of every government building, with the Union Flag taking precedence over the Egyptian flag in every town except Suakin. I've represented this by putting the British flag on the top half of the Sudanese roundel, and the Egyptian flag on the bottom (with all due apologies to the town of Suakin). The adjustments to Australia, India, and New Zealand were for purely aesthetic reasons (the flags themselves are competely historical). All of the other flags are historical. In general terms, the big change is that most of the colonies of the British Empire are now flying blue ensigns defaced with that particular colony's coat of arms. That makes the red ensigns of Canada, Palestine, and India stand out all the more. There are several weird flags that wouldn't have made it into the game if they weren't historical, in particular the Belgian Congo, Sarawak, and Borneo. There's a lot of kinky Victorian history behind those flags, and they were still using them in the mid-twentieth century. The USA uses the modern 50-star American flag in the game. This has been corrected to the 48 star flag in the mod. The 48-star flag was in use during both world wars and the Korean war. It's easy to tell them apart because the stars on the 50-start flag are arranged in a checkerboard pattern, as opposed to the straight rows and columns of the 48-star flag. One of the features of this mod is that it distinguishes between civil, state, and war flags when a country made that distincition. Finland and Germany (among others) have war flags that are a bit different from their state flags. Here's what Africa and the Pacific Rim look like with the new flags: Apart from the flags and roundels, I've also tried to put 3-D bases under all the headquarters units. As it happens, I prefer to play the game with 2-D counters so I may have missed a few. But I've tried to come up with bases for all of the countries that can raise headquarters units. Here are a few samples of what this looks like in the plain vanilla version of the game: In trying to find all of the appropriate HQ bases I noticed that the bases game omits the 2-D headquarters flag for Thailand. It's probably just an oversight that will get fixed down the road, but my mod corrects that. The mod also corrects the flags that appear with diplomatic events and announcements. Here's a sample of the mod's version of the contents of the Media folder: Finally, since I find the desktop icon that comes with the game a bit bland and boring, I've put an icon in the Autorun/Icon folder that harks back to one from Battlefront days. Be aware that it won't appear unless you change the properties of your current one. *************** MOD UNDER REPAIR ***************
