Question for the group:

There are a couple of threads on this forum where you can download a zip file of maps into your map folder within the game.

Then you can use the scenario editor to "import" maps into different sectors based on how large you want your scenario to be.

My question is how do you make the individual maps and then store them as maps in the map file?

Every time I used the editor to make a new map it wants to store the map I made as a scenario not a map. Even if I change the file extension from, as an example "mymap.scn to mymap.map" and then save it in the map folder it does not work. It doesn't come out right when I try to import the map into a specific sector of my scenario. The map is all garbled. Yet the other maps in the folder (existing maps) like MAP 1, 2, 3.....54.55,56 import with no problem into a sector.

Is there a special utility for making maps that maybe is not included in the game? Or maybe a secret trick that I am not privy too?

Regards,

Big Ivan

John, that's an easy one. Just make your map using the editor BUT don't save it
as a *.scn file. TotH will not recognize it unless you use the naming convention
used in the map folder. For example, MAP_1.map AND you need to save it in the
map folder with the new name. Then you can import as usual. It's all in the name
and the map folder location.

Thanks Sam,

I tried that and no joy, sum-na-beehive.

Curious as to what version editor you have? Reason I ask is I got a version error about compatibility.

The version editor I have is 0.2.70.

Use "Export map from a sector" under the Maps menu.

Selcet sector and it will be stored in the maps folder.

I have same version. Used the editor to make Deluxe ASL maps for some scenarios using
"MAP_a.map" for the 'a' DASL mapboard and saving it in Maps folder. Paullus's suggestion
of exporting map I have not tried.

Jorgen and Sam, you guys a geniuses!!

It worked like a charm using the export function. Holy cow that bugged me for years because I didn't know how to do that.

It opens up new possibilities for sure with me. Its amazing after all this time how you (me) learn new stuff about this game!

Thank you both!!
John

PS attached is a zip of my Map_1000 for your use.

IIRC, someone built a bunch of ASL maps and exported them for others to use (they are on the forums here somewhere). I was thinking about picking up on the ones not yet done but that's a pretty big undertaking and my time is short this summer. Maybe once fall comes around.

Yeah DoubleDeuce, I did the single map make with the editor like Jorgy and Hailstone suggested and just exported it into a map folder and saved it under a new name. I didn't do any of the existing maps known to ASL folks but started from scratch. The process suggested works pretty well even laying multiple maps (import) into 2 to 3 different sectors.

Like you say its a bit of work but fun to see the finished product in a scenario.

Below is a screenshot of a scenario I'm working on where I made 2 new maps then imported them into a 2 sector scenario I'm working on. LOL, sometimes I don't get the roads lined up properly so I have to tweak it.

I have never experienced a situation where I didn't find a
map required for an ASL scenario from the currently available
maps so it might not be as big an undertaking. There is an
exception and that is with maps that are produced for specialty
magazines and clubs. Is that what you meant to include?
