I am back with another Fall Weiss II AAR

This is a PBEM match with my opponent PanzerRommel and we will pick up on D-Day 1944. This has been a very hard fought match especially on the Eastern Front, with the Axis now being pushed back from their high point which consisted of holding central USSR and Rostov, and heavy fighting near the gates of Leningrad and Moscow. Italy surrendered in the summer of 1943. Now the Western Allies are prepared to open a second front in Mainland Europe against the Axis juggernaut.

If the Allied offensive stalls and we are unable to force Germany out of the war in 1945 the Axis will be declared victorious and sue for peace. (That doesn't seem right you say? Oh let's just say that America tries to drop an A-Bomb and it duds, and now the bad guys have an A-bomb too, and then sues for peace. Sure that'll work!)

Germany's grip on occupied Europe is still vast in numbers, but is it smoke and mirrors? Will the Germans throw divisions in front of Armies once we smash their forward lines? Only time will tell.

Throughout the course of the war the majority of losses have been a result of harsh fighting on the Eastern Front.

The Victory Conditions provide for a much more exciting late game. The Germans are clearly on the defense but will fight to the bitter end in hopes of negotiating terms of their surrender. Anything less than unconditional surrender will be a loss for the Allies.

D-Day is an outstanding success with little risk of a successful German counter attack.

The Soviets simultaneously liberate Smolensk as the Western Allies launch D-Day on the other side of Europe

The Allies will not request to extend the game as it's not warranted. It is a useful decision nonetheless when it's a good game that both sides would like to continue playing through.

Finland should soon prepare for peace terms or the Soviets will soon occupy Helsinki.

The Soviets have destroyed multiple Panzer Corps along the Smolensk front this turn, exposing a large hold in the Axis defensive lines. The Axis will be reluctant to retreat but large amounts of Soviet Tanks are prepared to route whatever reinforcements the Axis send to the front lines.

The German defensive positions near Kiev are formidable. The Soviets have opted to cross the Dnepr River further South head on into Romanian forces.

The Western Allies invasion of France is going well, the Axis are clearly preparing to engage the British, American and Canadian forces in more favorable territory then in direct range of our Bombers operating from England.

The Western Allies move quickly to liberate French territory as quickly as possible to re-establish local supply that was heavily damaged from the earlier bombing campaign and before the Germans re-group.

Paris is liberated less than 6 weeks after D-Day. The Germans did not put up a fight for the capital, with only an Infantry Division to be disposed. Tougher sledding is soon to be expected as we march Eastward towards German territory.

The Soviets attempt to break out from Smolensk while only pressuring the German defenses further Northward at this time.

As the tide of war turns against the Axis, and the Soviets advance towards Helsinki the Finns are once again prepared to negotiate an armistice.

With little to be achieved by continuing an advance into Finnish territory, the Soviets agree to terms with Finland. Germany and the Balkan allies now stand alone in the war.

The liberation of Paris has boosted the morale of the entirety of the Allied forces across Europe, the Germans are being fought back into their home country. It will be interesting if Germany actually prepares a counter offensive or simply fortifies their positions.

The Allies continue to isolate Germany from any foreign trade. Turkey is pressured to cease any further trade with our enemy, joining the likes of Sweden and Switzerland which were also pressured to cease trading activity, and with France liberated, no foreign imports from Portugal or Spain is possible now either. The Allies have also been bombing the Ploesti oil fields and other strategic resource targets, drastically reducing German income.

Mid July 1944

The Western Allies continue through France meeting only token defenses to slow our advance.
