Divisions on Java, and HQs around, are preparing for a Cox, Akyab Invasion. I am leery of doing it, and thinking instead of landing at Tavoy and marching up thru Moulmein in a frontal push instead. I think the AI will have a better response to that. Thoughts?

Meanwhile the troops are clearing up the Java holdouts, especially the festung at Tjilatjap before moving on towards Burma.

Beasts are bombing the invasion forces gathering at Ambon and Namlea, and here we have a brave Oscar Ic pilot taking on a beast head on. Banzai!

Over at Umboi and Long Island, Carrier Division Five retreats to Manus, and is awaiting another invasion fleet for Finschafen.

Started Emily production, moved 2 tojo IIa r&d to Frank A.

AKE Hohuku Maru, Bomb hits 1, on fire
xAK Tokati Maru, Bomb hits 1
DD Mochizuki, Bomb hits 1, on fire
xAK Seattle Maru, Shell hits 8
xAK Toyooka Maru, Shell hits 6

Slightly off map, the Allies have built up Lunga and Munga to size 1 airfields today! Japan has a lonely naval guard unit at Shortlands.

correct, if you do a landing, Tavoy would be better conceptually. It just depends on if there is a script to fire now in the defense of Burma ... likely there is. Did Andy consider an Akyab incursion? maybe, but planning for both sides and scripting for it would be involved ... I haven't looked at these scripts is a long time so I actually don't remember.

but at least they were Beaufighters (not Dorniers!), which means most of the ships will survive

Well, this is the IJN, not the USN though. I suspect 1/3 will not make it ...

The Oiler, pretty much full, had to be scuttled. The AKE, with supplies burned for several days until the supplies on her were gone. I hope she survives.

Japanese plans of a forward resupply and repair base at Manus had to be shelved. One of the main reasons was 0 radar...I only had two base forces there a COY size aviation support. It allowed those strafing planes to hit before we could react.

Back to Rabaul or Truk, and more radar sets are on the way.

Looks like I am for a real fight here, and I am leery of sending in the 5th Carrier Division for fear of those Qboats plus the Americans have all their carriers and I have no clue where they are.

Pretty good going Andy! So far the Americans have landed small portions of the 164th Inf Rgt and the 24th (Sep) Rgt. Not looking good for our lonely 84th Naval Guard Unit.

and Carrier Division 1 is at Honshu undergoing repairs and upgrades.

Junyo and Hiyo are in reserve at Truk training, although they might get dispatched to Shortlands.

I like to train the Jakes on Low Nav and use them at 1000 feet. If nothing else, they are trained kamikaze pilots for later on . . .

First time I have seen one of the Queens attacked by carrier aircraft! Of course, only the AI would bring a liner that large to the Solomons!

I don't think she sank. I hope not.

I hit one once with a torpedo from an Iboat I seem to recall. Don't think it did much though. So far I have destroyed 340 Allied Float Fighters on the ground. Unlimited Q ships...they would be a lot more dangerous with 6 or so float dive bombers in addition to their float fighters.

Is the Seacat a float wildcat?

quote:

F4F-3S "Wildcatfish"
The F4F-3S "Wildcatfish", a floatplane version of the F4F-3. Edo Aircraft fitted one F4F-3 with twin floats.

This floatplane version of the F4F-3 was developed for use at forward island bases in the Pacific, before the construction of airfields. It was inspired by appearance of the A6M2-N "Rufe", a modification of the Mitsubishi A6M2 "Zeke". BuNo 4038 was modified to become the F4F-3S "Wildcatfish". Twin floats, manufactured by Edo Aircraft Corporation, were fitted. To restore the stability, small auxiliary fins were added to the tailplane. Because this was still insufficient, a ventral fin was added later.[37]

The F4F-3S was first flown 28 February 1943.[38] The weight and drag of the floats reduced the maximum speed to 241 mph (388 km/h). As the performance of the basic F4F-3 was already below that of the Zero, the F4F-3S was clearly of limited usefulness. In any case, the construction of the airfields at forward bases by the "Seabees" was surprisingly quick. Only one was converted.

In a fresh water saving measure, all Fifth Carrier Division crew members not on duty reported to the top deck or flight deck of their ships with soap and shampoo. They are clean and used no potable water from the ships stores.

Now you know why no flights flew.

This has been maxed out for the Allies. This is to torture the Nipponese.

Despite losses Allies keep pushing forward at Shortlands.

Elsewhere, IJA troops drops forts to 2 at Tjilatjap. Koepang is being marched on.

Economy.

I have expanded my naval builds a bit.

I have kept my vehicle product on the lowish side.

I have not really been running around all over with the IJN.

I am building all ships (even merchants). Accelerating some CVs as points allow.

I have had to spend a lot on rebuilding oil and some shipyards. Not rebuilding anything else generally speaking.

My Manchuko garrison is strong really only pulled some engineers out.

China is much quieter than normal.

Can you post end of June update on this?

July 1, 1942

A look at the damaged oil wells. Boela is simply getting pounded by beasts, but they rotate their target from oil to port to runways to ships. The Rufes can barely keep up.

A lot of supply spent on engine production this month. A lot.

Economy, Aug 1, 1942

I needed to assign a higher priority repairing damaged oil...supplies have a nice uptick.

Here comes the USN...

Elsewhere, forts dropped to 1 at Tarakan in a 2-1 attack. Marching on Koepang...expect to take it fairly quickly. On Java the troops are resting after the latest Tjilatjap attack.

Still playing, albeit half heartedly. I really didn't think I would be able to grab the SRA.

The Allied attack at Shortlands is dispiriting. The AI simply throws ships to the destination and ignores everything. Both Queens were sunk or heavily damaged unloading troops at Munda. So when the 5th Carrier Division shows up nothing changes.

It was fun to take the SRA and Singapore, and the AI pulled off a good CV raid early on thru the Marshalls and then kept their fleet carriers alive.

Tojo IIa arrived, making 60 a month.
