In my game Prince of Wales is one of the most prominent torpedo magnets. But the Japanese have some too - HIJMS Kako was torpedoed IRL by an S-boat with three hits sinking her as she returned from the battle of Savo Island. In my game, on December 17th, 1941, she fared even worse:

Love those Dutch Subs! I did change O-20's skipper to a more aggressive one.

I reckon the trick is to park them in the deeper water east of Borneo - then you get to use them for longer. They can transit from an AS in Darwin, with some trips to the shipyard at Fremantle as needed.

You can even use them to suck up fuel that is left in isolated bases not IJ occupied.

Early on, the Dutch subs usually run out of torps before they run out of fuel. There are just so many IJ TFs running around the SRA.
You are right about the deep water being safer, but the smallest Dutch boats are quite maneuverable and can get away with a lot in shallow waters in the first few months because IJ ASW weapons are so poor, and their smaller escorts are not as experienced or well-led as the fleet DDs.

If I recall correctly, the O-20 is a minelayer.

Don't get too cocky. If its an AI game the AI is lousy when it come to assigning escort vessels.

I for one would not have a lone CA in those waters. Probably any waters. Can you say Indianapolis.

I put 9+ torpedoes into POW in one of my games over the years. Never sank her.

The CA did have escorts but they never showed up in the combat report. Must have been really crappy at their job.
I did not have O-20 on a minelaying mission at that time so she had the full loadout of torpedoes.

They need the AS to reload torpedos, hence parking one in Darwin, but there is fuel all over the joint.
