Good job Uxbridge!
I really like those winding roads that add flavor to the map!

Holiday is fine, thanks.

Except for the fact, obviously, that I want to return to the game, playing and moddinh.

At first I thought the roads had the appearance of cables, but as soon as I started to play, the improved visibilitty made me think more about the importance of them.

Back home again. Time for some serious gaming.

And a bit of modding. I had some ideas about the railways again.

An extra outline made the railways stick out more. Note Hanoi-Kunming rail-line. But I'm not sure if it is too much.

Had a slight set-back yesterday, but a rather amusing one. Some years ago, someone pointed out that the Stuka symbol in the game we played at the time (can't remember which it was) had a strong resemblence to a witch on a broomstick. Once he had discovered this, the image was firmly rooted in his mind and he was unable to see the Stuka anymore. Suddenly being aware of this, I began to see this witch too.

Now, that episode largely forgotten, some days ago the flying lady made her return, as I was suddenly aware of her sitting there on my German tactical counters. Dismayed, I began to search Google for some replacement, that I could alter the counter to something less evil. It failed utterly. I discovered that it was not only the counter that had the witch appearance, she began to show up in the actual war photos as well. That was when it dawned upon me at last, that a Stuka, being constructed the way it was, will always look like that when presented in this recognizable angle. And using any other angle just didn't present that nice "attacking" feeling.

So there she is still, sitting on the broomstick, on her way to some wicked mischief. Suppose we just have to get used to each other.

Finally came around to fixing the HQ's. They were constantly a pain in my eye with their crude flags, and for a long time I figured I had to live with it. Now it struck me that I could simple remove everything in the flag-file, making it transparent, and then draw the new symbol directly on the HQ counter. Quite happy with the result.

I'm also now trying the entire scenario out, it's name being Glowing Horizon.

I wasn't quite happy with the look of urban hexes. Once I began to see the cities and towns as behives, the thought preyed on my mind. Again, I decided for a GMT-game look, and simply made them circles and stars. They're now much easier to spot.

The map and counters look great. It's certainly fun modding with the SC engine.

I'm not sure if you solved your recon plane issue but if you set it to have 100% evasion it won't take any damage. I haven't checked to see if it will retreat, though.

Sorry, El Condorro, I never saw your post. I have taken a break from SC (temporary, I'm sure) to try out WarPlan, but when I return to this game a very high evasion must surely be tested.

Would be great if you could release this mod as a graphic mod for the community at some point!

Presently, I'm into WarPlan, but you can download the scenario where I have the counter and maps-sets from here:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/nzh0ds60kb5cqm4/AAAL-htIJ7y-fMmQl6djKIQFa?dl=0

Just make a folder named Glowing Horizon in your campaigns folder and paste the folders and files into it to play the Glowing Horizon scenario, or copy the bitmaps folder. Paste that into the scenario you're playing (after saving original graphics). I have already forgotten, but I think that you may have to replace the graphics in the standard 1939-scenario as well (after saving originals), lest the British units will stay vanilla.

It may be different ways to do this. Just prior to me stop playing SC, there was a patch creating a mods system. I never used this and don't know how it works.

The scenario takes up some space on my free Dropbox, so I will only have it there for a limited amount of time. Let me know when you have downloaded it.

PS Dropbox have just made some changes to their application, turning everything into an incomprehensible mess. I hope you can see and extract the folders and external files as I do.

Thanks a lot! I have downloaded the files, I shall see wether I can get it to work (although I am not a technical guy :))

Edit: Works fine, put it in the mod folder.
Can it be used as a purely graphical mod, I actually only play PBEM?

Yes, if you only use the graphics, they don't interfere with the game or what the other person do.

Ux.,
I think you might mod more than play.
(Which I am guilty of).
Nice work here.

I have the files, but it is better you ask Uxbridge directly. He is still active at the forums, but modding other games.
I would also love to play with them, and it just worked fine a year ago as I got them, but had a reinstall of the game since then and cant figure out where to put them. The Mod itself has a CTD, propbably because of all the new patches (?). He wrote that I should overwrite the bitmap in the campaign, and it works for the mods I have installed (like 1941-campaign), but I can see no folder for the 1939 campaign. Obviously, I am not very good at this.

Edit: found out. Seems to work well. Beautiful mod.

This mod should be available much more easily than it is.

The map alone is orders of magnitude better than the vanilla map.

If I could download the mod I would use it.
