Turn 3. Jan/Feb 1940. India.

Allied #5.
1. The Commonwealth moves to suppress the separatist uprisings in India.
2. The separatist group seized the magnesium mine are eliminated, the mine recaptured and immediately put back into production supporting the war effort.
3. However, the second and stronger separatist group is still in control of the iron ore mine in the mountains.

Turn 3. Jan/Feb 1940. Asia. Combat Logs.

Allied #5.
1. Chaing's Nationalist launch a major offensive to retake Nanyang.
2. In their zeal to impress the West with their fighting spirit the Chaing and his staff overlook the impact that even minor air support for Japan (i.e., 1 factor) does to his overall assault (+8.5 down +2.5 vs lone defender).
3. Chaing's is victorious but his victory is a Pyrrhic victory. Three of four attacking units are lost (army, corps & division) on the modified "magic" assault roll of 14.
4. Chaing's HQ-I is left flipped and vulnerable to the inevitable Japanese counter-attack.

Axis #7.
1. Both Umezu and Yamamoto launch attacks against the Nationalist.
2. Umezu easily dispatches Chaing's HQ-I and retakes Nanyang. To add insult to injury, the US is unconcerned about it all.
3. Yamamoto also draws blood against the Nationalist in a decisive victory.
4. The only black mark on these victories is left by Japanese strategic bombers which fail to score any damage against Sian.

Turn 3. Jan/Feb 1940. End of Turn. China.

The Script: The Philippines. I know in competitive play it's fairly standard to pull MacArthur out of the Philippines and move him to Hawaii, Samoa or even Midway. Historically, there was know way, no how MacArthur was leaving the Philippines. It took a direct order from FDR to get him to move from Corregidor to Australia. And once there, it took another presidential order from FDR to get him to leave Australia and meet him in Pearl. So in this game the script is that MacArthur stays in the Philippines until the Japanese invade. This likely means his HQ-I will be destroyed but, of course, MacArthur himself and a few others (his wife, son, son's nanny) will get out. He was called "Dugout Doug" by the marines for a reason.

Turn 4. Mar/Apr 1940. Resource Lending.

CW to France.
1. The only non-mandatory agreement in place and under consideration for modification is the 1 oil given by the CW to France.

2. Any modification to the 1 oil already being given was based on a D10 and the following:
0=no change, 1=+1 non-oil, 2=+2 non-oil, 3=+3 non-oil, 4=+4 non-oil, 5=+5 non-oil, 6-9=no change.

3. D10=3, so the trade agreement between CW and France is modified to 1 oil & 3 non-oil.

4. The D10 distribution for next turn (assuming Paris isn't captured or surrounded) is modified to:
0-3=no change, 4=+1 non-oil, 5=+2 non-oil, 6-9=no change.

Turn 4. Mar/Apr 1940. The Western Front. Initiation of Case Yellow.

Initiative.
1. The allies win the initiative and elect to move second.
2. The axis move first and see rain on the Western Front (i.e., north temperate).

Case Yellow. Invasion of Holland. Competitive.
1. By waiting (i.e., sitzkrieg) until March, the Wehrmacht have their II para corps that can ensure that they capture Rotterdam on the surprise impulse and locked any landings/intervention by the Brits.
2. Prior to the arrival of the II para's the only way to lock the Brits out of Rotterdam was through a generally risky amphibious assault through the North Sea. Only a sure thing if the Western Allies neglected to leave or get in place a deterrent naval force in the North Sea.
3. By waiting the capture of both Rotterdam and Amsterdam on the surprise impulse looks to be a sure thing. But, not necessarily so.
4. If the CW sets up the NED I inf corps on the RP instead of Amsterdam then that corps zocs will block land combat access to both Amsterdam and Rotterdam except through airborne drop and amphibious landing.
5. Well, that is, provided that the I inf corps isn't overrun during the movement phase which is a big if.
6. To achieve an overrun, Germany must first flip the corps via ground strike unless they want to waste an O-chit which they don't.
7. With the rain, and tactical factors halved, German with 3 air missions (i.e., planes) can get a ground strike with an 85% chance of flipping the corps.
8. Assuming a land, the 4th air mission needs to be saved for the paradrop if the the ground strike fails. But if it fails, Germany can only get either Rotterdam or Amsterdam on the surprise impulse.
9. That is, unless Germany takes a combine and risks the amphibious invasion.
10. Now, from the allied perspective does the CW player setup on the RP or not. If they do then there's only a 15% chance that the Belgium inf corps won't be overrun. This means there an 85% chance that it will and that Germany can save their 4th air mission and, more importantly, the paradrop for a rainy day (no pun intended).
11. In end, the CW player decided to place the inf corps on the RP and force the German player either to accept the 15% risk that the Brits will be able to deploy 3 ground units either to Rotterdam or Amsterdam depending on where Germany make her airborne drop or take a combine and risk an amphibious landing through the North Sea.
12. The German player decided on a land and take the 85% chance of getting an easy conquest of Belgium that locked the Brits out on the surprise impulse and being able to save their airborne drop for later in the turn if needed.

Turn 4. Mar/Apr 1940. The Western Front. Combat Logs.

Axis #1.
1. Rain on the Western Front.
2. Sitzkrieg shattered! Germany invades and quickly subdues Holland.
3. Massive Luftwaffe air strikes disrupt NED I inf corps, which had taken up a forward defensive position.
4. Wehrmacht panzers complete the destruction of the NEI I inf by overrunning the disrupted corps.
5. The quick conquest of Holland is completed when Whermacht panzers and infantry roll into undefended Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
6. Dutch naval units in Rotterdam overrun. The Dutch heavy cruisers Sumatra and DeRuyter manage to escape to England. The Dutch heavy cruiser Java and 200,000 tons of merchantmen shipping are scuttled to prevent from falling into German hands. However, a Dutch submarine flotilla is captured.
7. The US appears uninterested and there's no reaction.

Allied #3.
1. Herman Goring Embarrassed Again! Hitler Infuriated!
2. RAF Hampden bombers successfully bomb Prague, reducing Germany's war effort by 1 PP.
3. Britain and France Once Again "Help" Their Ally in the air but not on the ground.

Axis #5.
1. Storms hit Western Europe stopping the Nazis in the way that the allies can't seem to do.

Turn 4. Mar/Apr 1940. The Western Front. Continuation of Case Yellow.

Axis #11.
1. The storms turn back to rain on the Western Front.
2. Germany invades Belgium!
3. Belgium quickly subdued by the Wehrmacht before the allies can react.

Competitive.
1. The decision by the allies back on impulse 1 to forward deploy the NED I inf corps comes home to roost.
2. With the threat of a German airborne drop the CW player must place a unit to Brussels (bottom half/screen cap).
3. Otherwise, they could deploy Belgium's three corps in a manner that zoc-locks would prevent Germany from capturing Belgium on the surprise impulse (top half/screen cap).
4. And with a 15% chance at best and a 5% chance at worse of getting another impulse the odds were that Belgium would survive until next turn if Germany invaded. Given those odds, it's unlikely that the German player would have risk invasion this late in the turn.
5. But that was not the case. Germany still had the threat of an airborne drop, invaded Belgium and was able to effectively conquer it on the surprise impulse.

Turn 4. Mar/Apr 1940. Italian Red Sea Squadron.

Neutral Italy establishes a naval squadron operating in the Red Sea and based in East Africa.

Axis #1.
1. A neutral Italy sails the heavy cruiser Garibaldi through the Suez Canal and into the 4-box of the Red Sea.

Return to Base. Use Oil.
1. A neutral Italy is not able to keep the CA Garibaldi at sea and returns her to port in Eritrea.
2. However, Italy's merchantmen (1 CP) in the 0-box could and did remain at sea.
3. Because of Italy's neutrality not only can they move through the Suez Canal but they can supply and reorg units through it too.

Turn 4. Mar/Apr 1940. Asia. Combat Logs.

Allied #3.
1. Mao's CCP forces in the mountains of northern China achieve victory over IJA's 1st eng div.
2. However, the battle is realtively bloodless as the IJN's 1st eng div survives but is forced to retreat.
3. Mao also takes no losses but sees 2 of his attacking units flipped.

Axis #11.
1. Japanese Terror Bombing in China misses the mark. No damage to Chinese war production.
2. Yamamoto's IJN army group captures Ichang. No reaction by the US.

Turn 4. Mar/Apr 1940. End of Turn. India.

1. Another separatist group springs up in India!
2. England outraged! Another Iron Ore Mine Seized by Separatist.

Competitive: A partisan check has been made for India in all 4 end of turns. Of those, 3 have produced partisans. This is why you can never leave Bombay and Calcutta be ungarrisoned when the turn ends, or could end.
