Hi, ive been playing the game and lurking the forums for a while now, but this is my first post. I'm currently playing a 42-45 GC against the German A.I (1.12.05). I've noticed that [Breakthrough Art. Division] are not receiving any of the numerous heavy howitzers on their TOEs.
According to the game equipement and devices table, this howitzer is supposedly a earlier version of the one figuring in the [1941 Heavy Mortar Batallion]. In other words, it looks like the upgrade path of this gun is messed up, as it should be the other way around (i.e: the earlier heavy mortar upgrading to the heavy howitzer instead of the opposite).

Maybe this has something to do with the recent changes of the new beta? I recall seeing something about equipement replacement in the patch notes (relating to the new supply system and logistic phase), yet i'm not familiar enough with the editor to go check it out myself.

Peace.

Do you have sufficient Armament production/pools? Replacement engine may see more value in producing rifle squads or smaller guns to fill out your Rifle divs instead of building overly expensive guns

Edit: the superheavy 203mm gun is not produced, it may only be filled by disbanding other users or by having them swapped-out by the replacement engine for 280mm guns. The original 152mm gun is not produced either, replacement starts end of 1943.
Historically several of the Art divs were formed by merging numerous existing gun Bns.

Hi Deniss, thanks for the answer and for your general involvement with the game.
I am mainly confuse because the 280mm gun production end date is [9/1945], yet none are build to replace the 203mm guns i'm lacking. According to the equipement table, the 203mm gun is the « upgraded » version of the 280mm one, yet its production end date is [12/1941]. So I think my question really should be : is it normal that no 280mm guns are produced in-game? I was thinking the game engine would try to build them to full units lacking 203mm guns.

I'm also not having any shortage of ARM (since i'm playing against AI). In fact, I'm having so much that I could cut ARM production by some 30%. That's the only way I can get enough supply railed to my units.

I too am curious about the 280mm siege mortars and 203mm howitzers. I have plenty of armaments in the pool and neither of these weapons have been built.

Yoe have to form "Heavy Mortar or "Heavy Art." units. Go to STAWKA, then "form unit".

As Denniss said, the 280mm mortar and 203mm howitzer are never going to be built; you only get to use those you have at the start of the game. That means you are most likely wasting AP by creating units that uses only such weapons, since they will likely never be reinforced. IMO, these guns are most useful in the late-game breakthrought art. divisions, which also uses other types of guns and howitzers. In order to keep enough super heavy mortars/howitzers to fill these units, however, you will have to disband most of the units using them in 1941 and early 1942. If you want to save some AP you can set their TOE to 20% instead of disbanding them, which will restrain the amount of reinforcements they can drain off your pool.

havent really researched the soviet heavy siege guns....seems odd none of at least the 203mm were built during the war...as they used them in direct fire against some buildings in Berlin.

Dont really have time to research but not sure that seems right, as I would think replacements at least had been built to keep a certain level of units in use for them to stay in combat use until 1945. Esp when you consider how short the lifespan of most soviet equipment was.

OP was made because, according to the game unit's tab, one of those guns is supposedly in production until 1945, which turns out to be untrue. According to wikipedia neither of those guns was being built past oct 1941, so I guess this makes this aspect of the game historically accurate.

A total of 1011 B-4 howitzers were made from 1932 to 1942.

36 B-4 howitzers were planned for the 17 howitzer artillery regiments according to the approved August 1939 mobilization plan, alongside 1374 men allocated to each regiment. 13 of these regiments would be allocated two howitzers instead of one. The total need for the howitzers, at 612 units, was not fully covered until June 1941, when 849 B-4's were placed into service in the Red Army. To cover wartime losses, another 571 units were planned for production

A total of 75 B-4 howitzers were lost from June 22 to December 1, 1941, and a further 105 howitzers were built from factories to make up for the loss

Those are all listed facts on wikipedia, so may or may not be 100% accurate....but yes it seems the soviets had an endstate total number of 203mm howitzers they wanted in service and produced more to keep that endstate number. So would seem replacement of lost guns should be allowed or a soviet starting/build pool up to the end of 1941 to give the soviets the total number built and they can allocate them between various units as needed.
