In pretty much every MWiF AAR I have ever read, the Japanese always immediately send their MARines deep into China. When I play the Japanese, I always hold them for a strategic reserve vs. USSR. Meanwhile one thing I want quite a bit as the Axis is a Russian DOW on Japan. Or as a second choice, a Russian (only) DOW on Persia.

But I am starting to think that maybe sending the Imperial Guard into China could help bait a Russian attack on Manchuria. On the other hand, maybe what I really want the most is that Russian attack on Persia. Which always brings me right back to holding the 2 MAR.

Yet none of that ever happens in one of these AARs.

I think that has to do with the unified map. The war in China gives both sides more tactical room, which makes the use of the marines in China far more effective if you compare it with the map of the boardgame.

In several of my MWIF games the option for Japan to fight over Persia has been limited. The MWIF Soviet-Japanese peace has not yet been implemented, and this has caused us to begin several games with a Japanese-Soviet pact thus eliminating the need for reserves for Persia.

In some of the other games the Soviet forces has chosen to ignore Persia and focus their main effort on Manchuria straight away. As Japan I didn't mind provoking this by sending the Japanese marines into the interior of China. This, however, backfired as other events didn't go as expected.

The Chinese 14the Army is eliminated by the Japanese forces. The lack of Chinese supply is the key factor to the Chinese rout.

Paris is captured.

The only French unit that could retreat, and thus avoiding being destroyed is the AT. Hence it is the shattered unit
