For fans of the old GDW classic introductory wargame: Battle for Moscow.

https://oberlabs.com/b4m/

Twould be grand for Matrix to publish this, the copyright gods allowing. So many great games of yesteryear are crying out for computer revivals.

I'd rather not have Matrix publish this, its a free online game. It's a great way to attach new players to computer war games. I don't think Frank Chadwick or VPG will want to have it 'published', seems like the developer is doing fine with his free online game.

Maybe Matrix can produce/publish anything new he develops.

But Matrix does not need to publish a free online game.

But Matrix does not need to publish a free online game.

And if the did they would likely charge minimum $60

I guess my mine thing is the developer, designed and developed it as a free online game, obviously getting permissions from both Victory Point Games (VPG) and Frank Chadwick. So why or what would Matrix have to do with either of those folks?

Fantastic app! Planning to do others on other classic boardgames?

Thanks!

First, I'm going to look at enhancing the engine itself, ideally with an AI for the Germans and an option for 2 human players online (on different browsers/devices).

And then yes, if time permits, I may look at implementing more games with my engine, such as the other Campaigns in Russia by Frank Chadwick: The Arduous Beginning, Objective: Kiev and/or Target: Leningrad.

Or maybe other games, we'll see what's in popular demand...

Wow, this is a great little game. I worked out how to play it from the onscreen instructions easily enough. I'll tell some friends about it. It's turn 2 and my panzers spearhead are making good progress

Edit: I just noticed that the rains and rasputitsa arrive next turn. Also, as it's a basic game, supply doesn't appear to be modeled. I'm used to having to worry about it and probably could have driven my units on a little harder.

Well you won but those guys in Moscow and to the SE look a bit cut off. With more turns and the Soviet Winter counterattack it might have developed into a mini-Stalingrad. I believe the boardgame had a continuation option.

There doesn't appear to be a save option. Does the game have to be played in one sitting or does it remember the situation if you fire it up again?

I'm quite happy with this for a first effort. Pretty close to the historical result, with the Germans getting to the gates of Moscow but not capturing it. Hopefully I'll do better next time.

Hey Neilster, thanks for giving my little implementation a try.
The game comes with a built-in auto-save feature. So if you leave the page (or even close your browser) and then come back to it, you will see a "Continue Game" button on the front page. It will automatically bring you back to the start of the phase you had previously left.

Thanks. I thought that might be the case. It's a cool little game that's actually quite subtle.

Hello All.

I have just pushed an update incorporating various enhancements addressing a lot of the great feedback I have received over the past few weeks. The new version includes an additional option to play against a German AI in addition to the existing Soviet AI, a much requested Undo feature for the movement, replacement & reinforcement phases and several bug fixes.

Please check it out and, as always, feedback is very much welcome.
