Up to Tutorial 14 and am a bit stumped.

Overview (Page 1 of 9) says...

• Activate FLYOUTS (DC on any EMPTY land hex) when used in the
• tutorial,

On page 2 it gives the following instructions....

• MM Harwich (England); LC LND Hampden (Flyout)
• LC LND Wellington (Flyout); MM Dusseldorf (Germany)

So I double click on an empty hex but nothing changes. Can't find any menu option to enable 'flyout' either. Units have no 'flyout' option. What the hell is 'flyout' anyway?

The tutorial does state that it will be explained in detail later as part of IT 16. but I would really appreciate it if someone could explain.

There are two types of display - one for land (flyouts) and one for sea (naval review details). Double clicking an empty land hex ensures flyouts are enabled. Double clicking an empty sea hexdot ensures naval review is enabled.

Flyouts do not appear until you hover over land units and flyouts are enabled.

Double clicking on an unoccupied hex will enable flyouts.

Then when you hover over a hex that contains 1 or more units it will show a flyout window containing all the units in that hex.

To disable flyouts, just double click again on any unoccupied hex.

Think I've got it. I originally double clicked on an empty land hex on page 1 of the the tutorial and again on page 2 (did this cancel it?).
This time I left it until T2 and when it said 'flyout'. Did a DC and finally got the 'flyout' box. Got to say that the introduction to T14 say's air movement is relatively simple but it isn't. The tutorials are hard work but useful if you can decipher them.

Also at the end of page 2, it tells you to ...

• LC End Phase (Main Form); LC End Phase (Main Form)

So I've moved my bombers to attack Germany and click 'end phase' to do it. Makes sense. But why do I have to click 'end phase' again?

It will probably make sense later but it doesn't now. Despite help from the forum, phases and impulses are still a mystery.

Actually, flyouts remain enabled until a double click at sea, and vice versa for naval review.

To better understand phases, check out the sequence of play. You should only need to click end phase once, but perhaps there were other things to be done after the first end phase, possibly returning the planes to base.

Impulses are like turns in an IgoUgo game, it's just that there are times when one side gets more than the other. Phases (aka steps) occur within each impulse as per the sequence of play.

There are several forms for displaying units in a hex.

When there is only 1 unit in a hex, simply hovering the cursor over the hex will display the details about the unit in the Unit Data panel of the Main form.

Most popular are Flyouts, which show up to 9 units in a hex. Double left clicking on an empty land hex toggles Flyouts On and Off. When they are On, hovering the cursor over a hex with more than 1 unit will display up to 9 units in the Flyouts. When there are more than 9 in the hex, then the Flyouts form has a strip at the top of the form which can be clicked on to see 9 more units (e.g., #10 -> #18). There is also a strip at the bottom that does the same thing, but it cycles backwards through the stack of units.

Flyouts are intended primarily for viewing a land hex, since stacking limits the land units to 3 in a hex. Throw in a few air units and maybe a saved oil point or some such, and you usually still end up with less than 9 units in the stack.

Ports are an exception since dozens of naval units (in addition to land and air units) can stack in a port. The Naval Review Details (NRD) was created to view a lot of units (air, land, and naval) in a port. Double left clicking on an empty all sea hex toggles the NRD form On and Off. Note that Flyouts and the NRD are mutually exclusive, so if you turn one of them On, the other one is automatically Off.

Another useful way to view naval units during the Naval Movement phases is the Select Units form, which can be activated by doing a Ctrl-Left-click on a stack of naval units. That form only shows naval units (and the units they are transporting), but it lets you select a group of them according to their unit type, range, and/or movement allowance.

Some players prefer the Units In Hex form to view a stack of units. I'll let you read about that form on your own.

Note that the drop down Help menu in the Main form lets you bring up the Keyboard and Mouse Commands help screen (several pages) which describes all the keyboard shortcuts etc.
