I am still not sold 100% he is going for India...yes a lot of surface warships are headed that way...but...you don't really need a ton of warships to go for Perth either?

Misdirection is an attribute that is possessed by almost all great WITP AE players.

It just doesn't seem to me Oz, an early push on Perth or even Port Augusta is productive compared to an early Indian push. Remember this is scenario two and he can push very hard into 1943...but only if he clears China quickly in 1942.

I don't think Perth can be held early by a determined attack.

And on the lighter side, NJP's email to me with the turn....expressing shock about the landing in the Marianas! Totally unexpected according to him. If true, he has fallen into the trap of not looking far enough down the road.

Post invasion...

I wonder how much will this cause the IJN to change their plans...we are prepping for a full blown invasion of the Marianas, but it is at least a month away. A lot can happen in a month. And I doubt we get that far...but it looks to me that a lot of the starting IJ ships are present, plus merchant shipping from the Guam invasion.

We will make hay here for as long sea control is ours! The CVE and BB IJN force is at Ishigaki...they were at Takao yesterday.

You desperately need to land support troops otherwise you will quickly lose the base.

A valid point, but no worries I timed the invasion to have a very small unloading window during this turn, and the rest will unload with the next turn (or at least the parts that count).

Ok...I am up to date on this game for now...off to finish Lok's turn which takes quite a bit of time as it is early offensive days...

If anybody wants to see something drop a note here. Probably won't finish this turn till tomorrow.

Kalgoorlie is worth building up as a base and maybe entrench a unit behind it on the rail line.

Not sure its worth building up anything in Western Oz until you have enough air assets to defend them.

Build the airfield to at least size 2 and lots of forts.

Even then.

If he comes for Western Oz in any sort of strength, he'll just bomb the garrison to pieces in a matter of weeks

He'll be restricted what he can ship there..and supply. Allies can rail in as much as they want of those they have in Australia and won't have supply problem as long as Oz is supplied with fuel for industry.

I think invading Oz where there is rail network is a losing proposition for IJA. Allies can ship lots of troops from US to e.g. Sydney and then just rail them to west.

Darwin and northern bases of Oz are possible for IJA.

You are correct, my mistake. The Japanese bombers really destroy those AAA units when they bomb them.

Dive bombers really destroy those 40mm Bofors autocannons.

Not denying any of that!

But you make a good point if we were talking about a later invasion, which we aren't!

Currently have 2 AA units in Oz, one 40mm bofors, and the other 90mm Dutch....a US base force arrives in a few days and they have some AA devices in it too. To tell the truth, I am more concerned with protecting the resources (i.e. strategic VP) than I am with protecting the troops or runways.

Plus the first two size 25 P40 squadrons arrive at Brisbane today...a third in a few more days. 75 Airacobras are in the Pacific somewhere...so 125 fighters plus the squadron that spawns there. Not too shabby for Dec of 41.

I think the push is India...just makes so much sense, and I agree with Sardauker's points. I will be building Kalgoorlie to at least 2 runways...and forts are pretty much all I am building anywhere that is threatened.

I am toying with the idea of defending the Indian Atolls with troops to prevent a quick grab by a SNLF unit...Islands that don't have autoshock, I won't defend and that includes Ceylon.

Maybe some partial armoured units on those atolls, that would be a shock for sure! Even just that one B Troop of tankettes!

Just looking at some of his task force movements, I think he is going to grab Diego Garcia early. I have Hermes, and 3 light cruisers there to ambush him a bit...if I can get lucky.

So, I am thinking a fast transport grab of the atolls and islands to isolate India with the invasion and Ceylon coming later. That is my current thinking.

I think the only thing that can be here this quickly is a 2 ship Destroyer task force I lost track of...I think it could be a fast transport designed to take the base quickly.

The arrival of the high value ships at Almagan will allow Catalinas to fly naval search out of the dot base and provide supply and fuel...

I was worried about a cap trap over Saipan...and tried to use the carrier planes defensively which worked, beating off a small attack with bombs on Almagan shipping.

Thanks C-C! Not always successful, but entertaining!

Interesting to note that Japan now thinks they will fail in their bid for autovictory (from email to me)? He was really taken by off guard by the move into the Marianas...

I am vaguely aware of a bunch of British ships that need to be saved for later...I assume there are others, but these are the most important?
