I've looked every place reasonable and couldn't find anything on some of the air battles around the Eritrean–Ethiopian War. Anyone know of any?

No. But very good luck on this request for advice. The conflight might be best to just sandbox. The reason why might have to do with people 20 years ago going out and having fun on the weekend and this conflict is just not on their historical radar. I would have never considered Eritrean–Ethiopian War to be interesting outside of a private sandbox design. But maybe there are some technological discontinuities between the Eritrean and Ethiopian forces that might make for a cool scenario that could be posted for a playtest.

I am really puzzled by this comment. I asked a pretty simple question.

And I am puzzled why you can't understand that no one cares about the Eritrean–Ethiopian War. You asked why, and you got the answer you asked for.

It was decently bloody war...

And had MiG-29s vs. Su-27s.

I think I have seen somewhere a scenario about this, just cannot remember where. Must have been CMANO.

My interest is exactly the Migs vs. SUs aspect to it. I am working through a few more obscure battles around this, Chad/Libya/France and PRC/Taiwan.

Just a note...I searched for Ethiopian and Eritrean references on the entire forum nothing came up.

There were also a number of skirmishes with F-5s, Mig-21s, Mig-17s, and Su-22s. There is probably more challenging air-to-air combat in that war than in all of the First Gulf War. The opponents were somewhat evenly matched.

But there are always small-minded people around that aren't interested in learning anything new.

There is nothing new about the Eritrean–Ethiopian War. It's historical, but just not of any interest but to a few people. Most players or potential designers never knew it even took place. That's why there are no scenarios. I suppose someone in the Pentagon did a study on the air war and it's collecting dust in a file cabinet. But that does not mean the conflict might not be good for a Command sandbox which could serve as a starting point for a small DLC. Nothing wrong with posting something for others to playtest.

Ethiopian-Eritrean Wars. Volume 2: Eritrean War of Independence, 1988-1991 & Badme War, 1998-2001 (Africa@War Book 30)

Part one also available. Not overly expensive.
Small wars = interesting scenarios. IMHO.
Cheers.

Yeah I own those and a bunch of others in the Africa @ War series. Its why I was asking for any potential scenarios.

I have received a couple incomplete scenarios from other players to look at and play around with. I'll see if I can do anything with them.

btw, just to clear this weird misperception up, I didn't post about why no one had built a scenario about the war. I was asking if anyone knew of a scenario. If you think the topic is uninteresting, please start another thread and vote your disinterest there. Obviously some people are very passionate about not doing historical scenarios.

As I've said, at least a couple found it interesting enough to send me files.

I was toying with the idea of making scenarios on the Eritrea-Ethipia war, as well as the Somalia vs Ethiopia Ogaden war.
But never achieved a level of expertise to design a scenario.
Imo those war are more interesting than the Gulf War, the latter was too much lopsided, there is no real opponent for the USA.
In the Ogaden War the USSR started as allies of Somalia but in mid-war shifted to the side of Ethiopia; there were intervention of cuban forces and the USA toyed with the idea of aiding Somalia once Ethiopia shifted sided to the soviet bloc.
Wouldn't it make an interesting scenario?

All those Ethiopian wars are kind of interesting. Mostly because Russian and Ukrainian pilots flew combat missions on both sides.
