@Marinos1985 --- Game on, man from Bohemia Holy Roman Empire. Better not lose to me, will hurt your ranking losing to the guy at the bottom, I can only go up. You ever been to Graceland?

Just for your, some Elvis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdYYcMH4dmw

Well I've never been to Spain
But I kinda like the music
Say the ladies are insane there
And they sure know how to use it
They don't abuse it
Never gonna loose it
I can't refuse it
Well, I've never been to england
But I kind of like the Beatles
So I headed for Las Vegas
Only made it out to needles
Can you feel it
Must be weary
Oh so good... oh feel so good
Well I've never been to heaven
But I've been in Oklahoma
Well, they tell me I was born there
But I really don't remember
In Oklahoma or Arizona
What does it matter
What does it matter

Ok,

It appears that Marcinos1985, picked up a game.

Anyone out there who would like to play, maybe send me a PM.

Thanks,

Scott

Unfotunately, this game was terminated by server today, Axis didn't move for a month. Pity, it was very interesting. In late 1942:

1. Japan crushed China and was on a way to Urumchi
2. Japan took Hawaii
3. RN had a tough time on seas and lost a lot of ships - in the end RN had as many vessels as ITA nad GER combined, rare sight
4. Egypt was under attack, though I believe it would hold unless Axis brought new toys

At the same time:

5. In Russia only NM target taken was Kiev, rest was intact. You may argue, Soviets were already on offensive.
6. Norway got invaded by US, though Oslo didn't fall in 1 turn
7. All German mines were nearly wiped out by US strategic bombers, as were convoy ports to NOR and SWE. In result GER gathered around 600 MPP per turn.
8. US was ready to invade FRA, though I would wait to Spring 1943 (weather).

Game had some good episodes, there was a skirmish in 1941 near Oran for several months.
I hope smckechnie is ok, knowledgeable guy and good game partner.

Looks like this game gets awarded to Marcinos1985 by default.

Match finished.

ElvisJJonesRambo (Allies) gets a win over kidegan (Axis).

Summary: Kidegan gave me a solid beating in France and was on par for the Axis. He made an error in Greece, came in weak with Italians only. British were ready, willing & able to assist, became the heroes of the game. Russians were able to hold off Army Group North, which brought units into Finland. Lennigrad held by one hex.

*kidegan wants rematch, and he's getting it. Doubt he'll make the same moves, good player.

Match finished.

ElvisJJonesRambo (Allies) gets win over ThunderLizard2 (Axis).

Summary: Finally snapped ThunderLizard2 win streak over me. Was a complete grind, a Turkey grind for sure. Lizardman loves his diplomacy, he converted Turkey, Sweden, Vichy France. This game, I didn't bother to use the pen, stuck with the sword. Tired of Turkey joining his Axis every game, sent all Allies to the Middle East. Was bogged down for 2+ years. Fought in Persia, Iraq, Syria, Turkey, name it. He held Libya until the end of the game. Russia was on the ropes, Panzers touched the Ural Mountains, and South Western gates of Moscow.

Sent enough firepower to Turkey, to get Gerry's attention from Russia, that was a must, at a minimum. Supply sux there for Allies, lucky to get anything > 5. Also, a long sail from New York Harbor. Built half dozen forts in Syria to hold off his early Holy Lands invasion.

In the Pacific, was able to nickel & dime my way through the dangerous waters early on. Picked off a Carrier in Truk, he backed off. Tojo was more concerned with the Chinese Hoard. The future Commies mixed with Chang High Check's Army to kill Japanese on the ground, they were the real heroes. The Yanks were pleased with their partners making it across Manachuria and clearing the 38th parallel of Korea. Japs ate a nuke, but the glory goes to China.

Another reason I decided to go "hyper-Turkey", last game I lose to Lizard, I was complaining of the rain in England/France. Not much liquid air in Turkey/Syria/Iraq.

And after 20 complete games, the standings are as follows:
PLAYER	CURRENT ELO Games	Won	Win %
ElvisJJonesRambo 946.4 14	4	29%
Cpuncher 1,071.0 5	5	100%
Fafnir 1,100.8 3	2	67%*
Marcinos1985 1,016.4 3	2	67%
Thunderlizard11 1,009.2 3	2	67%
EarlyDoors 999.3 2	1	50%
HamburgerMeat 1,025.5 1	1	100%**
DoXiTXxX 1,016.7 1	1	100%
LoneRunner 1,016.0 1	1	100%
JackMack 1,012.7 1	1	100%
smckechnie 984.0 1	0	0%
taffjones 984.0 1	0	0%
mcaughey 984.0 1	0	0%
GeneralKaos001 984.0 1	0	0%
amandkm 981.3 1	0	0%
kidegan 979.7 1	0	0%

*Fafnir's starting rating was 1100 based on their standing in the WiE ELO tournament
** HamburgerMeat's starting rating was 1010 similarly

Even 20 games is not a large number for the ratings to be accurate, so they are still presented in order of plays not ratings.

You will observe that Fafnir currently has the highest ELO rating, due to starting at 1100 - at the start of this tournament their standing in the War in Europe ELO rating (where Fafnir is unbeaten in some years) was 1200. This is despite Cpuncher, who is currently 2nd, having defeated Fafnir in their matchup. After reviewing the AAR I still think that carrying across some of the WiE tournament points was a sensible idea; starting with a high rating means that those players gain fewer points for victories and lose more when they lose. More plays will show which player is the strongest in due course!

1) Played too many games, have reached terminal velocity.
2) Cookie Cutter has scripted the game. You have no choice but to follow specific methods to win. Makes the majority of Map, Units, etc. obsolete. Cannot handle the "Italian Morale Strategy", regardless of which side I play.
3) Game needs a point system or something.
4) Without a true Reload protection system, don't like competitive games. I make bad moves all the time, one significant bad turn, I've lost the game. I don't want to reload or should just play with reloads. Some of the turns I've seen, make me feel like I'm on an online casino/poker game.
5) Used to enjoy the Pacific Theater, but that's obsolete (see #2)

Need a new drug, any ideas? Thinking about playing more Face 2 Face, Advanced Squad Leader.

I'm not going anywhere. More like an old UFC fighter that has been in the Cage too much. I'm like the Cowboy Donald Cerrone. I fight too much, getting my ass kicked left/right. I probably should go full "Commentator".

This mask sh-t is driving me crazy. I don't even like to leave the house. I cannot stand seeing another human being wear a dental mask. That's why I've played 70 games of this game. Life sux !!!!!

The election is soon, I cannot give my opinion, because that's yet another rule I must follow.

So, I'm considering becoming a full-blown alcoholic. Do I start with Beer or go right to the hard stuff? Maybe cheap boxes of wine? Booze is so yesterday. Pill popping, there, that's the answer! Cannot smell it on my breathe and can always blame the prescribing doctor, just like Elvis!

I resigned from the game vs Fafnir (Axis), June 1940.

Mainly because of the situation described here. Don't want to play with such a handicap.

Will post some screenies later. GG to my opponent, his play is very sharp and uncompromised.

Okay, decided not to become a closet alcoholic, too boring.

Instead, on a cold darky rainy night, bought an Extra Large Greek pizza, Mozzarella & white Cheddar cheese. Oven cooked in the round pan with olive oil. Put a little Cajun flavor on the crust. Added Black Olives on one half, Green Olives on the other. Crisp bacon & sausage throughout.

Tonight's movie will be "Split", never seen, recommended from a pal. Will be making Ice Cream sodas. Vanilla ice cream (the good stuff, never buy cheap if you can help it), Club Soda (Canada Dry, don't buy cheap), then add Hersey's Syrup (once again, only buy name brand). Might add some Rum.

I'd imagine there has been some truly amazing games in this tournament, with novel ideas and exploits. Any chance some has been recorded to youtube? Or can you recommend some youtube-channel where I can learn enough to rise from bottomfeeder to mediocre?Thats an idea for ElvisRambo; youtuber :) You can drink rum while streaming your games

I won't condemn valid and legal stratagems, though I've often been bested partly through their use on me.

That said, perhaps the minds on the forum could come up with a list of agreed-upon devices to avoid, sort of a Marquess of Queensbury rules for play.

e.g. 'No hitting below the belt'... No Barbarossa in 1940

etc.

Just a thought for how better players than me might still be able to enjoy the game

Here you go:
quote:

By Cpuncher
1. No diplo on Majors.
2. No diplo on Bulgaria (haven't tested if Allies can keep Bulgaria out of war until Mid 1941).
3. No DOW USSR until 1941.

I'd add to that no Japan invasion on India via DOW on Denmark/Other-not-India country.
I may be mistaken, but probably nearly all games in this tournament were played under these 3 above.

Nah, I ain't a drinker currently, recycled enough that sugar can stuff in my early days. There's time/place for everything though. When I drink, it's for uplifting moments and to get a chick primed.

This one does strike me as an exploit - it feels like the game is intended to have a significant penalty for Japan in these circumstances, but the relevant events haven't been coded to cover all bases.

On the whole I'd want to be cautious about making houserules 'official' for the tournament - there is a fine line between what's a part of the game and what's an exploit, and it's easy to overreact. But this one looks pretty clear-cut.

I think it is also unfair to place Allied seaunits on the hexes IT must use to ship through the canal with before IT joins the war. Obviously no blocade against IT was made historically.

Preferably someone, who I didn't have privilege to play in this tournament.

ELO game has ended:

(Win) HamburgerMeat (Axis) defeated LoneRunner (Allies)

Summary: HamburgerMeat crushed China and Russia. Took Moscow in November 41 and Perm in April 42. The Russians spent more time running than fighting. Meanwhile, the Chinese were in full retreat to Urumchi at the end of the game.

Actually the game was fun, despite the spanking. HamburgerMeat is an excellent opponent. I learned a lot. Hopefully, I'll meet him across the board again.

If it's okay with HamburgerMeat, I do have a couple screenshots to share in an AAR discussion. The screenshots show the destruction of the central and southern Russian armies in June 41. I set up what I thought was a pretty okay defense and HamburgerMeat shredded it. Probably a good lesson for what not to do with the Russians.

New game started:
Taifun (Axis) vs Marcinos1985 (Allies). Standard house rules plus Denmark issue. The board seems huge but very crowded! I think this will be a very complicated game playing against such an experienced player!
