I think Asheville is the PG with a couple of 6" guns - useful for bombardment or taking out enemy small fry.

Shows 4" in this mod.

Okay turn is away, and we have three separate solid naval intercepts and one potential naval air attack...but other than that it is all Japan right now!

Do you mean by that, that you have created 3 separate transport TFs each comprised of only merchantmen and you are sending them directly to a Japanese port which displays an enemy TF icon present, or to the ocean hex which displays an enemy TF icon?

If you keep sending single xAK TFs to enemy ports, the enemy combat TFs may never have sufficient OPS/ammo to leave port after combat. That's one way to keep your valuable combat TFs safe from naval intercepts.

Got the turn...from Japan secret communication...haven't run the turn yet:

Ouch, I can see why you were excited about that turn.

Another turn like this and you will have to change your title on your AAR :-)

Also a useful tactic offensively as chaff in major fleet engagements - IJN DD's seem to love expending Long Lances on freighters. Much more comforting fighting IJN ships knowing the big damage dealers have been expended.

New Years Eve, 1941

A three destroyer squadron intercepts a juicy task force at Jesselton, gets a torpedo hit that fails to detonate, and the IJN craftily manages to withdraw for now...

TF Australia reacts to and pursues the IJN fleet...catching it, closing the Perth damages the patrol boat escorts that managed to bounce a shell of her deck armor, then the Australia sinks two ships before the IJN manage to escape...

No time to rescue soldiers in the water...we need another engagement!

Dawn arrives as the IJN convoy desperately seeks safety, fleeing flank speed from Task Force Australia (which retired to replenish ammunition)...and right into the perfectly timed pincer attack of Desron #12 at Manus.

DD Patterson ran right in and launched a devastating torpedo attack...and took a large caliber hit...but there would be no escape during daylight, as the merciless Yank destroyers even used 50 caliber Brownings on the convoy.

Our Dutch light cruisers and destroyers stand off from the Japanese fleets in Western Australia, electing not to close and we can only hope they aren't bombed by naval air power.

But the Dutch pilots are made of sterner stuff...

DD Patterson took a big hit!

These Bagley class destroyers are slated to join the carrier fleet, but with four 5 inch guns they make for good ambushers here in the chaotic amphibious phase.

I am trying not to lose them.

Elected to hold the rail line in favor of x4 terrain next door? You need to hammer some basic military sense into those Chinese

65th Bde goes glug-glug? Congratulations! Always a warm fuzzy feeling when enemy convoy is eliminated to the last ship.

Empire paying the price for overextending the IJN. Whole brigade in hostile waters without any escort, seems fair result.

The Intel summary page indicates not many points lost for IJ ships - so those important ships likely did not go down. Probably mine hits that did damage - the sunk ships page seems to always include (initially) any ship that had a mine or torp hit without any consideration of ability to survive.

That was a minesweeper at Townsville - look to the right for the location.

In game, yes - but the real-life Dubbo was a Bathhurst-class under construction in Sydney at this point in the war: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMAS_Dubbo_(J251). Not sure if it was a deliberate decision in DB to move her to Townsville?
