Hi
In my current game as a German player, it appears that Sevatsopol with a 5 now 4-level Fort is just untakable despite good units, massive direct pionners SU allotement, heavy artillery and mortar, and top-notch generals. The only thing is that my aircrafts just don't want to fly and I have no idea why. I've made several massive attacks and two Soviet average infanttry divisions keep repulsing my units. Last turn I won two combats with odds higher than 2.00 and the garrison held. Any tips or explanation ?

Hi Pionpion

I believe the new rule you are seeing is this one:

quote:

3. Altered new feature #19 from 1.12.00. Defending units will not retreat from battle that ended with odds 2.00 to 1 or better for the attacker if the fort in hex will be at level 4 or better. For heavy urban or working port level 12+ add 2 to fort level, for light urban or working port level 6+ add 1 to fort level.

There are a number of other rules about the contribution your artillery and engineers make towards reducing the fort level - see the different 1.12 threads in the patch archive at https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4031160

I've not upgraded to 1.12.x so you'll need others to give you more specific guidance. But I think it is fair to say that with sufficient firepower and sufficient patience the hex should fall eventually once you get the fort level low enough.

IRL Sevastopol was besieged from May 1942 and the fighting for the city lasted from 07/06/42 to 04/07/42. So the equivalent of 4 turns of combat

The city eventually fell, after many turns of fighting. It's more historical, I agree. BTW, forts 3+ hold much better than before, and I'm under the impression that it is much easier to dig in than before, but I may be wrong.
