Playing as Allies in my first game. In late Dec 1939 now and I've noticed that the Nazi-Soviet Pact and the Winter War (Finland/USSR) seem to be missing from the mix so far.
I saw in the manual that the Germans may or may not honor the pact but I didn't see any notification one way or the other. Also, no indication of the Winter War yet. Of course, I can't actually take control of USSR diplomacy until German AI declares war but just wondering about these things and if it is working as designed.

thanks!

On the German side you can decide after defeating Poland to keep all of Poland (not necessarily a good idea). Afterwards you can propose to redraw the dividing line but there are some choices that are only accessible from the USSR.

Yeah, the German AI definitely chose to keep all of Poland. I'm just a little surprised that I saw no notification one way or another. Also, the hit to the USSR's neutrality rating wasn't as bad as I would have thought (Soviets are at 34% Allies right now). Germans are massing on their border now though so that is likely to change soon.

I'm in March 1940 now and the Winter War never happened, also with no notification or explanation either way.

Hmm this is weird, you should definitely get popups about these things - though messages about other sides' events are easier to miss than the Winter War as that should be a decision event for you (though, maybe it doesn't fire if the Germans don't honour the pact?)

In nay case 34% mobilisation might not feel like much, but actually it's really significant - it brings forward a lot of research and production opportunities for you. You might normally be on 10-12% mobilisation so your income is 3x as high as it might have been!

The AI is massing troops on the Soviet border in March 1940? What kind of a crazy game plan is that? Let us know if it tries to invade the Soviets and the French at the same time. Only other option is to skip the French invasion all together. Who knew the AI had such big brass ones! I don't think a human would have the guts to try something like that.

Bravo, Hubert!

Actually, it's weirder than that! The Germans conquered France and the low countries in Nov-Dec 1939 (quite easily, to my shame) but skipped invading Norway or Denmark. The AI skipped the Battle of Britain and/or Sealion and has apparently shifted just about everything to the East. I'm in April 1940 now and waiting for the hammer to fall on the Soviets. I'm assuming when the weather clears up.

I'm playing a modified scenario with one week turns (all seasons), simultaneous. I also jacked up the starting morale for Germany and Italy. Maybe that has caused the AI to lose it's mind?

On the other hand, I've seen no decision events at all so I must have screwed something up somewhere (though all decisions are set to on and I never tinkered with them).

I wonder, when you made the modified campaign did you press Update for both the Events and AI scripts so that they will recompile to accept any changes you may have made?

To not have any Decision Events at all for your side by April 1940 is not right at all.

Hi Bill. You are exactly right. I went back into my modified file and updated the decision events to match one week, simultaneous turns and then restarted the game. Sure enough, everything is working correctly now! German AI is one tough customer so far.
