I am currently playing the Silent Service tutorial 1.3. After I sink the merchant ship I am supposed to shoot down an anti-sub helo down with a SAM. The instructions say to wait until the helo gets within 3nm of my sub which is snorkeling. As I wait for this my ESM reports that the helo is using long range surface search radar and I am wondering why they don't drop a torpedo on me. Shouldn't a surface search radar be able to pick up my snorkel and periscope from a longer distance than 3nm?

Picking up a snorkel is a very tricky job, especially in non-perfect weather. It's entirely possible to not be able to do it until you're almost on top of the sub. (In fact many surface-search radars cannot detect periscopes at all, there is a special flag in the database for those who can).

OK, thank you.But this isn't in-game database.What if someone plays without internet connection?
