Giving this game one more go. Playing as Allies (green -20% AI penalty).

Every time I play as Allies Spain always joins Axis (never does when I play Axis though). This automatically closes the Med and traps your fleet. Spanish ships are uber powerful, a low strength unimproved cruiser will always sink your full strength, fully upgraded battleships. So its game over for the RN and I always lose interest at this point.

This time I made certain to disable the script that allows Spain to join the Axis. Makes no difference. Spain joined the Axis as usual. So before I abandon the game again, is it possible to get into the game somehow and kick Spain out of the game for good?

Jan 1942 and as usual for my Allied games, China is almost lost and on the verge of surrender and Russia is in process of a desperate defence of Moscow. So if I lose the RN to Spain as usual Britain is effectively a goner too. Desperately need to remove Spain from the game if I'm going to be able to continue.

Thanks in advance for your help.

On another note - what's the chances of an easier setting being implemented into the game itself to give players like me a chance?

Did you read the game manual, or maybe watch some youtube?

Most probably answer to all of your questions is supply. Spanish fleet is very poor, but your naval units may be out of supply. For land units check out the HQ:s. They are the most important units you have.

Spain joining the axis. Did you use any diplomatic chits to counter?

When your fleet is trapped in the Med because Spain's entry automatically closes the exit to Allied ships then supply is an issue. I find Spanish ships to be uber-powerful every game.

Basically I'm asking if there is a way to cancel Spain from the game. The script I disabled didn't do it.

Don't you have any ports to resupply in med? Suez canal?

About Spain: Later in game (1941) you have more chits for diplo than axis. But you can put few chits to diplo Spain in turn 1 if you like. I'm pretty sure that Spain can't join axis if you do so.

Hi Janaka,

What I would suggest, to start, is to disable all the MOBILIZATION and WAR ENTRY events for Spain joining the AXIS.

These can be found in game via OPTIONS->ADVANCED->SCRIPTS and under the various MOBILIZATION categories and then the WAR ENTRY category.

Turning off all the ones that are labelled with 'Spain->Axis' or 'Spain Joins the Axis' should do the job here.

There are a few AI events where the Axis AI will attempt to pressure Spain diplomatically, these can typically be countered by investing in diplomacy as the Allies to push Spain to your side, but if not then if you truly wish for a 100% guarantee that Spain will never join the Axis, your best bet at that point is to open the default campaign, save it as a customized campaign and then disable all the applicable Spain mobilization events as well as any AI diplomacy events targeting Spain.

Hope this helps,
Hubert

Another thing you can try to make it easier, if of course you haven't already done so, is to turn off all the bonus AI units that the AI will receive over the course of the game. These can be also disabled via the OPTIONS->ADVANCED->SCRIPTS screen and under the UNIT section.

The bonus AI units would be found at the end of this list and are labelled as such.
