Why can't we scuttle ships? Why do we have to keep them around when all they do is cost oil? I like that we can get rid of ground and air units, but why not ships.

If I'm Italy and my navy gets trashed why can't I just scuttle the navy and save on oil? I know I can stop repair and upgrades on damaged ships to save production points from being wasted on them but why can't I just scuttle them if they become damaged and I no longer wish to repair them?

Keep them in port. Then they use almost no oil. They only use a lot of oil out at sea.

Yes I do keep them in port but they still use oil don't they? Why can't we just scuttle them if they become worthless and stop the oil wastage, especially for the Axis which tends to be short on oil? I do know the difference in oil expenditures between leaving them in port and putting them to sea, as the Axis I try to be careful not to waste oil on frivolous adventures at sea especially by the large surface ships.

Because only conquered countries scuttled their navy in order to deny the opponents to capture their ships at port. Give the players the chance to freely scuttle ships couyld be considered a "cheap trick" to free logistics.

What about getting rid of ground and air units? Wouldn't that be considered a cheap trick to conserve logistics as well?

What about ships that suffer more than half damage, couldn't we then scuttle them? Obviously we can stop wasting production on upgrades and repair but we can never stop wasting oil. Not a problem for the Allies but definitely an issue for the Axis.

Historically no country scuttle a ship. Fleets were a prestige token in a mindset of later colonial empires.
