The Germans make a mistake and leave Hungary undefended. I march in to Budapest with a Yugoslav corps and Hungary surrenders - netting the UK with 82 points! Turkey also moves away from the Axis as a result (sadly I didn't get a picture of this - Yugoslavia will be defeated next turn).

The US order an embargo on the Japanese....

As expected, with the area to the north of Nanning breached, the city became untenable and was taken. My action in Central China has not had quite the desired effect - the southern (Changsha-Wuhan-Nanjing) area was quickly and easily sealed off - but to the north, a Japanese corps has taken a hit, and I am not sure what they have in defence at Tsinan and Tsingtao.

The desert war grinds to a halt in a sandstorm. I use the time to re-build. I still have no success with the pesky Italian submarines but my subs find the damaged battleship holed-up in Sardinia and sink it.

The German Navy gets itself in a bit of a pickle in the Baltic. I can't remember exactly what happened but I think the Germans lost a CA and possible a CC while attacking a sub and a battleship in harbour.

Elsewhere on the Northern Front the Soviets wait the arrival of the Germans....

In the middle of the front the units before Moscow are low in number, quality and hope.... but apart from that...

In the south I stupidly did not detect that there is a link between Kherson and the Crimea.... what a waste of a fortification...

I am asked if I want to send RN vessels to the Pacific as they come out of repair. I say NO and keep them in Europe.

I am also asked if I want to spend 20 points to try and damage St Nazaire. I say YES.

The Japanese continue to comfortably contain any Chinese expansion east in the south (they hold a line Wuhan-Suchow very easily) - and cost the Chinese many hits in the process - but I've been able to push toward the coast in the north and the Chinese retake Tsinan. Regardless, the Japanese have not moved west in the south of the country and so I am comfortable that this diversion was not a waste.

I destroy a German corps southwest of Lake Ilmen, but more worrying is the paratrooper that landed in Talinn....

In the central area I gave a bit of a kicking to one of two panzer units that ventured too far east. I am concerned about my units (and a potential pincer) in the bulge, but can't keep retreating. Where is General Winter?!?!?!?

The panzers go roaming in packs of two in the south too. But this time I have no army to repulse them.... the one there was a new arrival and so not able to attack.

The march to Tsingtao was halted and Tsinan was abandoned (while 5th Army took a severe beating in the process). However, the Chinese did not retreat completely and instead inflicted heavy losses on the Japanese XXXII Corps.

What happens next depends on what reinforcements the Japanese can get to Tsingtao by sea or north from Shanghai.

What else to report? Well I managed to lose a Royal Navy battle squadron against a tank!!!! I had the ship in port but the Germans occupied the port... good grief...

Meanwhile in the North Atlantic I've tried to go after the submarines attacking my convoys - but made a bit of a pig's ear of it. It looks like I've destroyed one sub and another is down to 1 point. However there are many more subs around as well as a surface raider....

In the USSR the only thing really to report is that I can't get rid of that pesky paratrooper...

Would one be correct in thinking the Japanese are about to attack the US per chance? Just a wild stab in the dark.....

A strange turn - not much happened at all. I wonder why?

Two things in China:

The lack of activity in the north is a function of the need to reinforce. I need to upgrade some units, but decide to keep the pressure on XXXII Corps too.

Secondly, I saw a Japanese unit move into FIC and so I start to pull back so as not to be out-flanked.

In the North Atlantic I finished off the sub that had taken a pounding last turn. I attacked a second which dived, but was unable to attack a third to any effect. I found a commerce raider and managed to reduce its strength - but was unable to muster the force to finish it off.

A sandstorm in North Africa means not much is happening

The Soviets are hit hard by raider activity, but at least my North Atlantic lines have a day off....

The Chinese lose a corps and with the air power the Japanese have brought north, I decide to withdraw behind river lines. In the south I think I must have done his maritime bomber some damage with my newly arrived fighters - because i did not detect any interception. There appeared to be no movement from the Japanese in the south.

It was a decent turn at sea. The British destroyed the surface raider and a sub in the North Atlantic. In the Mediterranean, the Italians lost a sub too.

In the Mediterranean the Germans tanks take a hit attacking my right flank. They swap out for a corps which I then almost destroy.

The Japanese declare war!!

Yet another variation on a theme for the Chinese. I decide to bring Mao's forces in to pressure Tientsin. Meanwhile the Chinese make a slight withdrawal to make better use of river lines and to give the Japanese no easy wins. If they want to hurt the Chinese they are going to have to advance...

Right, what the hell is going on in the Pacific? First up the Americans appear to have lost no less than 3 battle and 1 heavy cruiser squadrons.... ouch!!

Not much to do with the US forces except to try and re-group surviving naval and air assets.

Same with the British in Malaya and Singapore - which I reinforce as much as I can.

In the Mediterranean my destroyers/bombers kill an Italian submarine.

Nothing happening in the north of the USSR, but annoyingly an Italian and Croat? force took Gomel in the centre.

In the south the panzers weren't as devastating as I assumed they would be, and as its snowing I am not going to retreat just yet.
