Hi all. Is there a proper procedure to ferry aircraft to a different airfield? i assign aircraft to a ferrying mission and they start to head that direction then all of a sudden to a RTB and fly home. This only happens with those 'big' airfields that are multiple 'buildings' on the map. Single airfields it's no big deal as you can just change their base, but that doesn't seem to work with the other ones.

There is several types of 'buildings'. Runways, tarmacs, shelters, etc. Not sure which one I should have selected when adding the Ferry mission.

Thanks very much!

An airfield needs to be either one of two things:

One of those "Single unit airfields"
Or a group of units that must include at least one runway, at least one runway access point, parking for aircraft and ammo storage. They must be properly "grouped".
If the airfield has sufficient units to make it an airfield and not just a group of buildings, it will become an "airfield" icon, otherwise it will be a simple grid icon and you have missed something.

To create a group, select all units to include and press "G" key. Units can be detached from the group by selecting them individually with the "D" key. The group can be disbanded by detaching all units. Switch between group and individual unit view with the "V" key.

To ferry units:

Select an airfield (must be either a single unit airfield or a grouped airfield. If a group you must make sure to select the group as a whole and not one of the individual units.)

Once an airfield is selected, create a ferry mission. Then the selected airfield will be the target.

Aircraft added to this ferry mission will fly out to the other airbase and will have their home base automatically changed to that airbase. Make sure they have the range to make it or provide AAR support.

Hope that helps

This shouldn't happen, it sounds like a possible bug. Can you please share a save of that situation PRIOR to them RTBing? Thanks.
