A quick question - is it possible to actually score hits on resources through strategic bombing?

For the last several turns in my grand campaign I have been bombing the resources at Corunna Downs with very high DL, good conditions, and at low altitude with no opposition. Not a single hit has been scored though despite using dozens of bombers. Shall I persist or is this a fruitless endeavor? Thanks!

Why bother? The Japanese will never ever run out of resources.

I guess in Australia Manpower is less common than Emupower.

It is possible.
I bombed Darwin’s resources from Timor in my current game by directly targeting them.
It took a few days to a week to score the first hits.
Then maybe one point of damage every few days.
I couldn’t take out the last two points of the 20 or so that are there, I assume it gets harder to hit at that stage.
Pilot experience and ground bombing skill are other key factors.

Thank you, this is what I was trying to figure out. Now that I know it is at least possible I will probably continue my efforts even if it is difficult.

Yes that's right. No manpower at at Corunna Downs for me to target.

How do you bomb a quarry? It's already a bloody great hole in the ground

Haha, I imagine that's why it is difficult to do so in the game

This is unsurprising - there is an air strip, an iron ore mine, and a cattle station at Corunna Downs (which is the historical name of the cattle station). And I am referring to now, some 78 years later. During the second world war this was a sheep station, producing, largely, wool exported to make military uniforms. The station comprised some 214,698 hectares.

By way of comparison, the Principality of Liechtenstein comprises ~ 16000 hectares.

You can't hit strategic stuff on dot bases. Also, presence of manpower does not matter if you directly target other stuff

So there you go - shut down the strip mine by destroying the power shovels, trucks, rail cars and tracks, and the ramps going into the pit.
And shut down the wool production by bombing sheep, shearing sheds, bundled wool, road and rail transport and the diggers who love their sheep ...
As for cattles, just drop the Aussies some BBQs and fuel and a few kegs of beer - they'll see to it that the cattle find their way to the party.

Is it a dot base?

If so, I suspect a bug. I've had the same experience as you when trying to bomb resources at a dot base hex.

Yes, that does seem to be the issue!

I think the more effective way of trying to minimize the use of Corunna Downs is to target Port Hedland with your bombers. As there are no roads out of Corunna except to the port if you damage the port the resources will have no way to get to the rest of Australia.

But the actual desire should be victory points.
