I posted this in the development forum and then the thought occured to me that there might indeed be somebody older than 70 out there. I'm proud to say that I'll be 71 on 21Mar2021. If I live that long. I smoke about 5 packs of smokes a day, I do medical marijuana every 20 minutes when I'm awake and my diet would kill a vulture. the only exercise that I get is taking the trash can out to the curb on Tuesday mornings. you'd think I have a major death wish. Anybody older than 70?

My father died when he was 70.

I could have gone all day long without hearing that news. My condolences. And my thoughts and prayers would go out to you guys if I still did that sort of thing.

I'm guilty of being 73 and then 74 before the end of the month.

I thought you were asking how old is the community.... well the game was released in 1998 so...

Anyway, I'm a lot older than I was in 1998 (actually might have been early '99) when I was arguing with Vincent Prochelo and Holger Wilks on the Talonsoft forum- but still embarassingly young compared to you guys.

...anyone else around who was on the Talonsoft Forum?

He sticks in my mind for some reason. Dan Cook- that was another one.

Actually it's surprising how many people (such as yourself and Bob) have been more or less continuously active for all this time.

My user name here on Matix is my second incarnation. I can't recall what it was at first but most likely it was dlazov or something like that. I think but can no longer remember if my nick back then was zovs or dlazov or lazov or fite66 I used those and maybe others prior to just sticking with zovs and I have lost a few email nicks over the years before sticking to zovs66 using gmail.

I actually attempted to create scenarios all the way back with the TalonSoft releases. And I have been working on my conversion of SPI's War in Europe for just about as long.

One of my first play testing things was with Matrix and a game I think it was going to be called Battlegroup or Battleground or something but it never saw the light of day for some reason, I think there still is a dead forum/thread here on Matrix. lol.

I started playing war games back in the mid seventies but it was all cardboard back then. I had at one time over 500 board war games, but had to sell them off for a divorce and tax purposes, sans my ASL collection. I started playing computer war games back in 1995 when I found SSI's Steel Panthers I. I purchased that and was hooked. I then got a SSI 20 or 25 war game disk somehow/somewhere that had Tanks! and a few other games on it and played those until I discovered OAW in 1998 or so from TalonSoft.

Prior to joining the Matrix Game's forum's in 2001 or 2002 or so I was on Genie back in the early 90's on a Tandy TSR-80 with an 8 baud modem! They used to charge $19.95 a month for internet. When it dropped to $9.95 a month a few years later it was like, ah so cheap now...lol

Genie was a text based forum and I was on a lot of war game forums like the Europa group and others.

Man times have changed...

All that and I don't have to post my age...lol

Not as old as some but not as young either...

We may have to start carding people who come onto this board: If you're not at least 60, bye!

Well that would be a problem. I started TOAW at 14 or 15.

Alright. You're in. But you can't have any of the hard stuff.

Nothing with more than 100 pieces a side or lasting past 20 turns- seems reasonable.

Old enough to have heart, knee, prostate and memory problems. I think I may have been Sunray on the old Talonsoft forum

My 8 year old Great Granddaughter accused me of being older than dirt. My Granddaughter chimed in and said no he isn't. When he was born dirt hadn't been invented yet.

I think that will take the cake. You either started very, very young or you are older than dirt

Daughter at 23. Granddaughter at 43. Great Granddaughter at 63. I'll be 72 in April. 23 is not very young. Well these days it is since 30 years old seems to be the starting age for families.

In the service we'd says I've been doing 'such and such' since Christ was a corporal..... Not quite back to the Punic wars ;)

A young scrappy 50! here. Lobster, no grandkids....yet! ;)

We'll have to get an apprentice for our Grand Wizard (Bob!) so he can take over and release TOAW5 down the road. Someone needs to learn all of his secret tricks so he can retire some day. :)

Bob was retired. Now he's just tired.

Looks like Bernie is letting "The Force" do the work. A nearly impossible missile strike to knock out the Chinese super carrier.

I was thinking of something more like..The Mighty Programming Wizard of TOAW (doing all your special updates behind the curtain). "Please ignore the Programmer behind the curtain! Nothing to see here!!" The Klan is a whole other bunch with another forum but I don't think it would apply here. Secret Wargaming community, Yes , but a Klan...Heck No!!

Would you prefer to be called our Grand Poobah instead? AKA => A high-ranking elected position in a secret society, the Loyal Order of TOAW Buffaloes.
Here, Here! Three Cheers to, Bob!

A BIG sincere Thank You and appreciation for helping keep the TOAW4 project going.
