I have just had the entire AGS cut off supply due to partisan attack.

I regarded this event game destroying and the only reason the entire front was not wiped out was due to poor AI response.

Just as I recovered and retreated I lost supply to AGS one more time. The combat factors of 30+ core averaged 2.

Once again I regarded this as a game destroying event. and again the entire army was not destroyed due to poor AI response.

To ensure this would not happen again I deployed 10+ divisions to protect AGS supplies. This is 1 division on guard duty for every 2 core fighting on the front.

Just as summer begins and Germany attacks in USSR You bloody guessed it, the entire AGS is once more out of supply due to partisans.

So the question is, how many divisions are needed to protect AGS supply lines?

Look back in the forum where there are numerous threads on partisans.

The partisan aspect of the game is essential for historicity. The AXIS player has low-cost garrison forces and minor allied forces that it can use to fend off the partisans. Garrison all important cities and rail junctions. Partisans will not appear near those garrisons, and those that do appear are rather easily defeated or corraled.

David, are you talking about partisan units being deployed on the map or simply partisans cutting rail lines. For the former, partisan units cannot deploy within 5 hexes of one of your units. So you have to space out cheap divisions behind your lines so that all (or all most all) hexes inside Russia are within 5 hexes of one of your units. Depending upon how deeply you have penetrated into Russia this can usually be done with 5 to 10 divisions. Partisans cutting rail lines are more difficult to deal with. Partisans cannot cut rail lines that are adjacent to one of your units. So theoretically you could deploy divisions along every rail line spaced 3 hexes apart. As this is not practical you will have to do as gwgardner suggests and make sure that all key rail junctions have a unit in them. These can be the same units that are preventing partisan units from spawning. Of course, it also helps if you have multiple rail lines to your front line units. That way if one rail line is cut your units will still be in supply. Personally I have never had a problem with keeping at least one rail line open; so I think perhaps that you may be getting really unlucky.

I am talking about partisans cutting the rail lines.

The German advancement into USSR is a few hexes east of Kiev so not a huge supply line to defend.

After once again getting units cut off from partisans I reloaded the autosave and sent more troops to defend my supply lines.

I reloaded the game 5 times but EVERY time partisans were able to hit 2 lines to cut off supply in different areas.

As the game stands now with the insane losses of being out of supply for 3 months and the HUGE amount of troops in the rear there are only 2 options that I have.

1, retreat out of USSR
2, send even more troops to the rear and canceling offensive operations.

I have not had the north out of supply once yet. Including reloads the south has had its supply cut off 10+ times in a year long war.

David, do you have the know-how to post a screenshot of your map in South Russia with the "show supply" turned on. I have occasionally had my supply cut in Russia for a turn or two, but nowhere near to the extent that you are reporting. But without a screenshot a can't tell you if this is a bug or something else.

I restarted the game and do not have a copy.

I did notice a bug but as it was my 1st game I was not 100% sure. After further playing I now know it was a bug and I was not able to recreate it.

The bug I noticed is when I moved next to a Soviet unit I was unable to see the soviet corps values nor was I able to attack it.
I was able to move onto the Soviet unit and it disappeared. The German unit was blurry upon moving onto the Soviet unit and took some effort to read the combat and movement numbers.

Would be great to have the partisan taken care of with less micromanagement.
Maybe abstracted like the convoy lanes, with areas to which you would assign security forces like you assign escort ships to a segment of your convey lanes.

I'm all in for allocating the resources and all, I just think that the current way of doing it is laborious and out of phase with the "less micromanagement, more thinking" that seems to be the moto.

I would not like the partisan to disappear, it is true that if you do not prevent it it can be very annoying, in previous versions its amount was exaggerated but now it seems to me that they are in the right measure.

Handling it personally allows small decisions like which railway line you are going to cut or where to move it so that your opponent mobilizes the largest number of enemy troops.

I think it's good for immersion and although small, it's just another part of the game.
