So roughly 1 and a half months into my first pbem my opponent stopped responding and I haven't gotten a turn or a message in over 2 weeks. My question is if there is any way to retrieve the game password in order to continue with someone else as I have poured quite alot of time in this wonderful game and it would be quite infuriating to have wasted it so

I don't think there is, you will need to ask your opponent and hope he will respond.

In theory yes, but in practice no.

An AE dev coder with access to the code and the debugging tools could do it. Point is they aren't around anymore.

You are by no means the first to have experienced this situation. Many an Allied player has found their Japanese opponent just disappear at the precise moment when a Japanese setback occurs. Also very common when one side losses decisively a carrier battle. That is the risk you run when playing a PBEM.

Isn't there a form of Master Password system?

I know of a non Matrix serie of games that has it, pratically there is the option that the host of the match / a third party has a password that allows access to any player turn and thus can allow another player to take over and set them with their PW too / turn a faction to AI (Obviously the latter does not work well with this game!)

If it really does happen a lot maybe we could get a moderator (or someone else) to keep track of people's pws and stipulate before starting a pbem that both players have to provide that person with their pw. If someone can't agree to that why make the investment in playing them?

What happens if the keeper of the passwords disappears?

Welp I guess im out of luck then, not unexpected but it was worth a try . The third party system for passwords sounds interesting,
and it would avert situations such as these, if anyone was willing to manage it. Although I would like to think that for most PBEM's
this wouldn't be needed because of the mutual trust between the players which I falsely counted on in my game.

It's not just about trust, some of us could drop dead at any moment!

Well if that was the case I probably wouldn't continue the game at all. Opening the save would feel like desecrating the man's tomb

Not some of us, but ALL of us...just an example, 3 months ago I kind of slipped the stairs. I had house shoes on from my father which did not fit at all (I visited him). Had I fallen over somehow instead "slipping down the stairs on the back" it could have been ugly with ceramic tiles down there. But the stairs also were old wooden ones (not stone) which helped. I had pain for 2 weeks tho....

This is why one should not judge an opponent if he goes MIA, one does not know if he did not want to play on or something happened. A normal guy would at least send an e-mail explaining and saying sorry he can´t or does not want to play on...

Without being drastic - there can be many variables that may induce a player to quit.
From RL matters (Family more pressing, gaining a new job, or so!), to simply litterally losing interest for the game (which at times can happen if a situation seems compromised and beyond repair).

The third party PW possessor seems a good way to go.
