Time for AllenK and I to go head to head again. I've not had the chance to play the Allies much (just one other game) so not had too much more opportunity to see how others play the Axis.

So my plan for this game is not to make the noob mistakes made last game (messing up Case Yellow, Barbarossa AND Pearl Harbor!! - wow that is some feat) but not expecting too much improvement in play - and certainly not getting a victory. But any improvement would be welcome

Mmmm... that could have gone better - a 0-4 attack resulting in 2 points of loss didn't improve the mood at Army HQ....

Army Group Kimura continue their advance on Changsha, disposing of another Chinese unit on the way.

There's a lesson learned. It's better to advance less far than try and do too much and get out of supply. Unlike MWIF for example, it seems the supply is calculated at the start of the turn - not the movement. The III Panzer Corps was effectively out of action that turn.

I feel I got away with one there. Poland surrenders.

Damn I didn't get a picture of the MPP situation

Turn 4 + 5
13 October - 27 October 1939

Not much to report this turn. I move units in China into position for my next attack - although once again, supply is a problem.

Nothing to report on the German/Italian front other than units manoeuvring west as fast as possible.

Kimura and Okimura's forces combined to remove a Chinese corps from the OOB. The Central Expedition Army moves into the junction between the Chinese 4th Army and III Corps.

Again there is little to report from Europe. The Germans are still positioning and the Italians are still building.

Turn 8 + Turn 9
8 - 22 December 1939

A very quiet turn. The Japanese continue to push in Southern China but an attack against Hengyang only reduces the Chinese corps rather than destroying it. Disappointing.

My pocket battleships disrupt supply off Cape Town.

5-19 January 1940

This time I destroy the defenders of Hengyang, but can't move in.

The Germans declare war on Luxembourg and 1st Army advances, in the snow, to conquer the tiny European country.

The Royal Navy continues to be a pain in the convoys...

My pocket battleships are found off Cape Town by a heavy cruiser squadron. I scarper to try and live another day. One of my wolfpacks - already down to 4 - is set upon by about five destroyers....

The Germans march in Lithuania.

The Chinese open up a new front just as the rains come down... Kimura and Okimura press on with their attacks in the south regardless, although these meet with limited success.

I hope to contain the new threat with reinforcements on their way....

The Chinese are getting annoying along the line....

In the north Army Group Terauchi (with one army loaned from its southern neighbour) tries to block a Chinese corps heading for Peking. The counter almost succeeds.

In Central China the Chinese try the same tactic. I bring Umezu in to form a new army group, thus freeing Itagachi to move north and releasing Kimura to the south from responsibility for the aircraft.

And my computer said it encountered a problem and had to re-start right in the middle of the turn. So I will see if I can replicate what happened in China and Belgium....

I thought the blurb said it should be no biggie. Maybe I was wrong. If so - damn!!

Turn 16 + Turn 17
30 March-12 April 1940

So, having tried to re-create what happened, I've suffered some positives and minuses - although I think on balance it's probably favoured the Chinese. In the north the result favours the Japanese. My Peking Garrison took a bigger loss when attacking the Chinese corps, but the loss to the Chinese was greater. To try and limit Chinese loss to the original 1, I then attacked with my second garrison (rather than the Army) - but in taking a loss it also destroyed the Chinese. So China lost 1 point more (and with it the corps) while the Japanese lost 3 points instead of 2 - although these were taken by Garrison and not the army.

In the south the Chinese get a significantly better result. My airforce loses 5 points more than previously (I can't see the Chinese fighter). The land forces are no different.

To the south, the Chinese loss is the same, but my land forces take 2 more points of loss.

Re-doing a turn is never comfortable and although I've lost out, I'd rather this than be in a better position. I'll invite AllenK to check these images if he wishes to.

Perhaps I should spend some time practicing!! I was unlucky with the rain, but that could have gone better with better game management. Still, it was an improvement on what went before - when I don't think I started to attack until the late summer!!

Wow the rains really start to fall!!

Meanwhile I've decided to occupy Denmark - let's see how that pans out and whether it was worth the cost.

Norway is taken but my forces on Oslo get a kicking. Ouch!!
