I resized the Jake squadron on the Nisshin to size 9, but I can't divide it into 3 sub-units. The Petes divide just fine at size 9. I haven't tried the Mizuho yet since it is at sea and , I thought there might be a similar issue since they are the same size. Any idea why or what is going on? Any help or explanations appreciated.

Are there any fragments or detachments? A picture of the unit will explain a lot.

If the float unit is from a surface ship eg. a CA or BB you can´t divide it, also not when resized.

As CS count as surface ship not "CV" class (CS means scout cruiser) it is possible dividing it is not allowed.

Edit, seems this is correct, in my game eg. Chiyoda1 has also Jakes and cannot be divided.

The ability to split a squadron is set in the editor, and AFAIK won’t change when you resize the unit.

@dcpollay : with two torpedoes, this is either Mavis or Catalina.

Whatever it is, I don't want it to be divided into 3 sub-units

I think the comment regarding surface ship float plane resizing is probably spot on. Odd though that the Petes can be split, but the Jakes can't.

Where do people generally find air groups to put on AVs and CVs that have no imbedded squadrons?

Following on with the lovely posted artwork, let's see some pics of Betty, Judy, Sonia, Babs, Sally, Judy, and Val to round out the collection...

The CS that convert to CVLs, if you leave the float plane units on them, they will convert as well according to my understanding.

The AVs can be parked at a base and provide the necessary support for float planes and flying boats.

As far as more pictures, start at the first post on this highly intellectual thread:

Most of the groups can be resized, some of the groups can be split. I never had problems with filling in ships

Not to mention buying back air units from ships that sink . . .

That only works for the 2x Chitose class Joe.
Mizuho and Nisshin will need air units that start as land based to be assigned to them.

If you want fighter units on CVEs you’ll need to issue Zeros to a land based unit and post them to the CVE.
You can upsize one fighter unit to size 81 on a big CV then split it into thirds to put 3x 27 fighters on 3x CVE.

For floatplanes, any subs that carry Glens that get themselves sunk can have the Glen det bought back.
I’ve used them to provide a FP det to AMC and LSD that don’t have their own.

The other two are upgrades, are they not? The two types are handled differently.

Its simply that not all units may divide.

I am converting 2 of the CS to CVLs. I guess all 4 would have been better - much more usefull but now too late.

Btw. I can not find my NISSHIN air units anywhere, they did not withdraw I believe. Were they renamed at some point? Anyone knows

Nisshin units do rename, to 9## something.
Same for most of the named AV floatplane units from memory.
If you check the editor that’ll show the name change.

Assuming everything is WAD, the Nisshin 1&2 chutais should rename in stock as 958 Ku T-6 and T-7 during April '43.

No need to guess. The "Jap Airgroup Upgrades" tab on the AE-Japan Set-up Spreadsheet has the complete list of Japanese air units, whether they can divide or not (column I), locations, arrival/withdrawal dates, and even the complete PDU-off upgrade path for every single one of them. Don't leave home without it.
