31 December 1941 Sumatra nad Java Japanese forces once again moved north and avoided PT boats attack. IJA is trying to clear south of Sumatra. Additional air raids attacked Batavia and Oosthaven. Task force detected moving north around Singapore (Malacca Strait). Their target might be Medan (North Sumatra) or supply mission in Burma. Celebes Admiral English with his Task Force managed to repel attack on Manado (for now). Losses are heavy but allied ships managed to hit CVE Taiyo. Explosion of fuel was seen on ship. His forces and dutch ships under CPT de Boer will try to organize pursuit against damaged enemy and escape for own damaged ships. quote:
