Status: offline 		It is handy to have battalions break down to companies. Not only can one screen a larger front by spreading out the battalion's companies, additionally, when advancing, sending one company forward while holding the remainder back is something quite useful.

Status: offline 		I don't have the game and I'm not a tester, but I suspect the answer is probably: 'not directly'.

There is a mechanism where you can create a new unit from an existing unit. You can find the screenshot here: Create Unit Screen. So you'd be able to create smaller formations from an existing unit if needed.

Status: offline 		Indeed. You can form Kampgruppen (or Taskforces). Especially in low unit : hex density scenarios this is almost a must-use strategy to be succesful. Interesting for scouting purposes, but also for garrisoning conquered towns and then pushing the main unit further onwards.
