We have a Russian-declared war with Japan. Russia has taken Manchuria save for around Port Arthur, so has captured 2 resources.

We cannot find any way for Japan to surrender, whether or not Russia would accept, or for finding a Mutual Peace. The Peace phase just gets skipped over.

The optional rule forcing Russia to accept a Japanese surrender is grayed out in options choices, so is not in play. But, hoping that three resources would still trigger a surrender request, we did a mock withdrawal in Korea so the Soviets could take that resource, but again Peace phase was skipped over.

So it appears that we must edit the .GAM file to remove the war, but haven't seen that covered in the editing articles on the forum. Can anyone offer advice on what to change?

We would also need to make trade agreements, and start Pact chits. Is that mechanism in game, and can we cause it by editing the .GAM?

It's 3 resources anyway.

quote:

Option 50: (USSR-Japan compulsory peace) If Japan controls
Vladivostok during the first war between Japan and the USSR, the
Japanese player must agree to a peace if the Soviet player wants one.
Similarly, if the USSR controls 3 or more resources that were
Japanese controlled at the start of Sep/Oct 1939
, the Soviet player
must agree to a peace if the Japanese player wants one.
In either case, the new Russo-Japanese border is established by the
hexes each controls. Any pocket of non-coastal hexes wholly
surrounded by hexes controlled by the other major power becomes
controlled by the major power whose hexes surround them.

Two clarifications:

1) The option 50 forces the winning side to agree to an armistice. Even without the option, either side could propose a mutual peace, and if the other accepts the war should end. We can't find a way to do that.

2) We tested the Russians taking a third resource, and it didn't do a thing. Still did not get the Peace phase.

Option 50 is not coded at this moment. This is work in progress.

RAW:

Two major powers at war can agree to come to peace on any terms
mutually acceptable (except for transferring units).

This rule is written in such a way, that it is almost impossible to code, according to Steve. One could simulate a "going to peace" rule by not attacking anymore.
Sure, that is not RAW, but the best you will get in this game.

I would interpret the RAW as

Two major powers at war can agree to come to peace on any [game] terms
mutually acceptable (except for transferring units).

Use garrison requirements/entry markers, trade of resources, oil and build points, etc.
