Sorry for the question, I know I have seen the answer in the forum but can not find it. This time I will be sure to mark it.

Air recon give a troop count. A devisor was given that would estimate combat strength. Does anyone know the number? If my recollection is correct it was answered by Alfred.

About 1 AV per 30 troops. But that is for a fully supplied and ready unit. It is before combat and other subtractions such as lack of supply.

It’s a rough estimate, for combat troops. If your recon shows a lot of base forces, engineers, HQ, and other support units, it might be less AV.

But OTOH, if there are many tanks, you’ll have to add those to the AV estimate.

A tank unit will have roughly half AFVs and half support vehicles, if there are no other vehicle-heavy units muddying the waters. The Raw AV of a tank unit may not be impressive - the big factor is the firepower calculated at the beginning of combat.

Yeah, the big uncertainty factor is all those motorized support some units (*cough* US ones *cough*) have. However, tanks’ AV will often be better preserved through the « fire » phase of combat, due to their armor, so I prefer to include all vehicles in the AV estimate. Just to err on caution’s side.

Firepower is not only a factor for tanks, but for infantry squads too. IJ infantry doesn’t change much through the years, but the USMC and USA Rifle squads have a hefty Anti-Soft value increase. Those values don’t have any direct effect on AV, but indirectly, once the fire phase is done, the resulting effect of all that firepower may result in more disabled/destroyed squads in one side ; and thus, lesser AV available for the combat odds phase.

And RhinoDad, please be mindful that raw AV is not effective AV. Factors like XP, leader, forts, preparation, to name just a few, may have a tremendous effect on the effective AV.

Not to mention supplies! Morals don't really matter but their Morale certainly does.
