I was looking at ASW heli ops in a scenario where sub hunting was a large part.

The system has many options in the throttle and altitude button that allow good flexibility.

However with ASW operations using dipping sonar it would be great to have a dip and sprint option where the helo moves along the return towards the target and redeploys the dipping sonar repeated until the area the sub is in is reduced to a few square miles.

Your opinions are welcome.

Do you mean to have the helicopter only search on the uncertainty zone of the underwater contact? It would start at the out perimeter and work its way in towards the center of the zone?

This already exists no? In the doctrines settings for your helicopter (or its mission) (or the side doctrine), you have in ASW section "Dipping Sonar, Automatically deploy in hover and less than 150 ft altitude"?
And the behavior you're describing happens provided you have set an ASW Strike or ASW Patrol.

As a sidenote unrelated to your question, I always forget to make the sonars active for helos, but I understand you need to do that if you want to use the Dipping Sonar in active mode.
