Waffen SS - Counter color?

I am debating about what color to do the Waffen SS counters. As you know traditionally Waffen SS counters have been colored black. But in a more modern world is that still the right thing to do?

At the moment I have them in the game with the black background.

What's the collective thought here on the matter?

Black or I wonder. Did you try to put a kind of metallic dark grey background color?
Not sure the contrast with other units will be enough.

Use Feldgrau for the Heer and either Black or Camo for the Waffen SS.
I am traditional I like Feldgrau vs Black (and Luftwaffe Blue for the Fallschirmjaegers / Luftwaffe Field Divisions etc).

Light gray vs dark gray is both not really more accurate.
Feldgrau is a particular color, not a “simple” grey.

Status: offline 		Just a black counter will not get you in trouble with the PC crowd or law - as long as leave out the SS runes.
...but leave room for us to mod the counters as we like, expose the art to modification and you have a win win situation.

Status: offline 		Black is cliche, but isn't black more a Gestapo thing than a Waffen thing? I don't recall ever seeing black on anything other than a tanker Waffen or otherwise.

If you want realism, go with camo. If you want cliche overstated board game colour, then black isn't out of the norm.

Status: offline 		For me the camo feels blurry on the map. Sticking to the esthetic of the game (single-color counters) the black wins for me.

I for one feel increasingly uncomfortable with the black counters (both in digital games and my old boardgames) and it would be refreshing to see something different. Either the camo or different shade of grey as rico21 put forward would work for me

And if the color makes you uncomfortable, remember that black has traditionally been a sign of the bad guys...such as the black hat guy vs the white hat guy. Black counters are not glorifying the SS.

We must go to the experts for the proper period correct colours.

There was little change in fashion colors during the 1930s. In spring and summer, colour gravitated towards saturated pastels such as peach, rose pink, lilac, sunny yellow, sky blue, and sea green. Add to that year round colors of red, copen blue, emerald green, orange, and mustard.

Rose pink tunics anyone?

Add a sprinkle of glitter and a touch of rosemary on the flap. Otherwise - faux pas!
