OMG. Midway (2019)

I didn't think Pearl Harbor could be exceeded...and I was wrong......they even managed it without a silly shallow romance sub-plot complete with best friend vying for the same {insert preferred Pronouns} target.

the CGI sucked. but sadly, that was the least of the carnage and I had no expectations there. how hard is it to simulate a ship....vs. a "boat?"

Getting my Vaccine shot now.......and Septuple Masking against future war movie "remakes".

I presume that the hamburger would have a bun and possibly condiments. The gardener would grow the plants to make the bun and the condiments from. Except for the condiment called BACON!

Brothers, let's pitch in and keep THE THREAD!!! free from log heresy at the top of the page. This page needs to be relegated to history.

I have to go and get my corned beef brisket started in the slow cooker and do some actual work today. I'd like to see a new page, properly titled when I check back later.

I disagree, nothing beats The Movie Which Won’t Be Named on the Despicable Scale. You can’t beat their rate of historical inaccuracies per minute of screen time.

Plus, well, that whole plot derailment. What do those Japanese aviators have to do with a lackluster love story ?

All that being said, I’ve watched Dunkirk a few days ago. Not bad for Hollywood, albeit a couple of errors too.

Notably the opening scene. Sure, one week before the end of the pocket, the Germans were hardly two streets away from the beach...

But the casting of nobodies for the Tommies (and naming the primary POV for the beach scenes « Tommy » was a nice touch), and the senior actors were spot on, especially Mark Rylance.

The speech-light scenes were brilliantly directed. So many movie directors feel the need to add useless speech, to fill in the blanks, but this movie shows how the silence (or the music) may replace most of the words. Those words that are spoken have meaning.

And, last but not least, how refreshing it is to see a movie without an American hero saving the day, just to appeal to US audiences.

That was because it was an Allied DEFEAT!

Unlike the Battle of Britain which had a Polish unit whose leader became an American after the war . . .

A land defeat, but neither air nor naval. And not just the Royal Navy but also the cockleshell navy manned by the civilians with all sorts of craft as well. I think that there was some help from someone with the nice weather as well.
