Hello everyone, some of you may recognize me. I still get e-mails from Matrix/Slitherine and got one today announcing the release of this title. I knew it had been in development for years, but that no idea it was going to come out now.

Before I logged in today, I did not realize it had been since August 2017 that I was last here. I still purchase games, however. I did get Field of Glory II Medieval back in February and I have been enjoying the hell out of it.

I am very interested in WITE: 2 but the time investment has me worried.
War in the West was about the limit of what I could take in terms of the number of units that needed to be moved.
I own WiTE 1 and the daunting number of units that needed to be moved each turn was a turn-off.

Also, has encirclement been improved? One of my biggest pet peeves with WiTW and WiTE 1 was you would encircle enemy units and instead of them shattering or being captured, they would instead teleport outside of the encirclement?

If there has been some automation put in place to make the game a bit less of a time sink I would be very interested in a purchase.
Also if my encirclement issue has been fixed or if someone tells me what I have been doing wrong.

On a non-gaming-related note, I hope all of my old friends here are doing well.
I and my wife welcomed our first child into the world in January of 2018 and being a parent has been a trip and a half.
In 2017 I got the bright idea to leave corporate law behind. With a group of other attornies, we began our own law firm.
The first 18 months were tough but now things have smoothed out and even with COVID forcing us to lease office space we barely use, things are looking really good for us.

Glad to see everyone is well and that Matrix/Slitherine are still thriving.

Because of system, you still need to encircle enemy for a game turn.

Since turn is a week variable, it both makes sense and an annoyance.

Air management can be left to AI totally and it does decent job.

As beta tester, I always did play AI assist on. it is not optimal, but definitely not sub-optimal.

To add: With some new retreat calculations, those units are mostly toast.

I think this has to be what I have been doing wrong the entire time. Because on the attack, time is of the essence, I always as soon as I got the enemy surrounded I immediately launched an attack the same turn.
It makes sense that since turns take place over the course of a week that it would simulate having some days left where the enemy was not surrounded and would have a chance to 'leak out'

That is exactly how I see it.

Thank you for the reply.
Now if only they would update WITP: AE to run better on modern hardware/OS and make it better to work with more modern higher resolution and higher DPI screens...

This. Is this even possible?

I would actually be willing to pay a modest sum of say $20 if it was.
Every time I get a new system, it gets harder and harder to make the game run even with command line edits.
And since every monitor I buy now is usually 2k resolution or higher, the lack of supporting modern (modern being say 2014) resolutions really hurts.
Oddly enough, WiTP: AE works best on my Surface Pro 4 with its very odd native screen resolution.

But I fear that in the next few years I am going to purchase a system that just refuses to run the game. My gaming desktop that I am using to type this right now, the game is already unplayable.
It has a 2K screen and runs Windows 10. The game has multiple graphical errors and while it never crashes, it does freeze up pretty often forcing me to restart the game.
I can really only run the game now on my Surface Pro 4, and while that is a great ultra portable, nothing electronic lasts forever.

I would really hate to lose one of my favorite all time PC games.
Especially when the company that made it is still in business and active.

But that is a tangent, I made the purchase of WiTE 2 tonight using some discount codes I had.
I can only hope that WiTP AE keeps working for me or that the developers one day go back and revisit it and update it to work better on modern systems.

Where to start. WiTE2 has an updated OOB so there are more units rather than less, but you do have Theatre boxes where many units first arrive so you are not searching the map trying to find them, and you can now select an entry point for your selected reinforcements instead of marching them to the front from the Eastern or Western edge.

Encirclement, as mentioned you have to have a unit isolated for 1 turn but also the Dev team has hunted down every known AI cheat (bug) ie teleporting out of encirclement and fixed them.

And finally congratulations on becoming a parent.

Sounds like they pulled a lot of what worked with WiTW
I went ahead and made the purchase because I have some coupons that stack with the 10% off already offered.
Looking forward to getting time to dive in.

Thank you for the well wishes as well. She turned 3 in January. One of the few bright spots of this pandemic is watching her be so strong and brave over the past year while at times me and her mother felt like falling apart. She wakes up every day so happy and ready to start her day despite massive changes in her life like suddenly not being able to see friends or grandparents or her cousins for long stretches of time.

You won't regret this purchase.

Lot of work and love went into it.

Bit like what is to have a child. Congratulations too!
