Please note that planning the "route to the target matters" too because of flak. Make sure to alter the route not over HEAVY flak concentrations. Flak get ever increasingly dangerous as the turns go on.

Looking at my photos I just confirmed that I set only the hex in between those two airfields to itself instead of setting the range to 1 hex to cover both Airfields for the Lvov airfields to be bombed :( Oh well, would have been nice to have those aircraft destroyed on the ground but will just pick those Soviet Fighters and bombers up by intercepting their ground support. Although that normally isn't always good for the Germans (lots of Fighter losses)

Ok, have some time before I have more "Honey Do's" to do to work on the AAR!

I do some book keeping in the Commanders Report for units that are "on map". I won't get into the details of everything I do but one thing of note that I do do of importance to me is to retrain the 110-2's to Fighters. They will be gone 8 turns to retrain to fighters but I want them as fighters for a specific reason which I will let be known later. I do realize many of those squadrons will be withdrawn later anyway but to me it is worth it.

Next on the agenda is which front first? I always start with the Southern front because how I do things requires a great many resources from another front to have a chance of working. Thus I will start there.

Next question is to do a Lvov pocket(sort of) like in WITE1. Not near as effective as WITE1 and I have drawn the route on the Snapshot below. But to me I have found it is not worth it even though many will disagree with me. I personally like locking down the Southern Front. Hence I will be going for a Southern Front lock down by not passing certain hexes in the South. Please look up releasing the Soviet Southern Front in the manual for a full description. It is a bit cryptic, at least when I read it it was to me. If you have questions after reading the manual I am more than happy to explain and show in this AAR. I did a lot of testing to make sure I understood 100% in the BETA for this strat. (I did use this strat in 2 AAR's and found to be more effective in my opinion of course)

Turn 1

South Front

1st attack across border has the desire effect of "greater" than 10-1 odds(to not cause delay in the hex) AND shooting down a whole lot of Soviet airframes. Again I am "not" using ground support. I may turn on if I think the hex could be a problem hex but rarely have I had to.

I will show a few opening moves but will fade these away after I run out of helpful remarks for newer players to WITE2. I don't remember everything so feel free to ask :)

3rd attack more air units loses + more than 10-1 to cause no delay from a hasty attack. (Remember, delay is ONLY added to your movement when you leave the hex. NOT when you enter the hex)

Turn 1

South Front

4th attack more air units loses + more than 10-1 to cause no delay from a hasty attack. Plus bombing during the air phase to get rid of the fighters is paying off now as Russian bombers are flying Ground Support unescourted. I am looking for easy wins for Exp and Morale for my fighters.

Turn 1

South Front

5th attack more air units loses + more than 10-1 to cause no delay from a hasty attack. This fourth attack is important because the FBD rail repair will be going through this hex for repair. Thus having no delay here helps.

6th attack herds the units to one nice stack. This attack caused 1 point of delay but does not matter here because I will not be using it for heavy traffic throughput.

Just a note here I go out of my way to destroy all the front line forts on turn one. That way I don't have to deal with them turn 2.

Turn 1

South

Main moves in the South have been completed 95%. I still have to tidy up some areas & do some house keeping of moving units to new HQ's and depot building, etc, etc. But in essence this wont change much from where I am at in the South at the moment. Will post final South position at the end of turn 1.

Turn 1

Air loss running total after South almost complete.

Currently at

90 German loses

to

3286 Soviet loses

Should end up ~3500-3600 Soviet total loses and 110ish for Germans is my estimate.

Starting Center moves now for a bit before going to bed.

Center

Still a work in progress but will continue tomorrow when I am not falling down asleep. About 60% done for Center with most of the Center South done.

Notice that I push as many units as possible out of the border forts. I always did this in WITE1 and I continue to do this in WITE2.

Thanks for the updates.

Am I right in assuming support units have been assigned to Corps level (excepting flak)... ?

I know Strategy Gaming Dojo favours this approach but I am aware several veteran players allocate them to Divisions.

I cannot speak for HLYA, but generally players assign support units directly to Panzer and Motorized divisions that will be outrunning the Corps HQ during their movement and making a bunch of hasty attacks. (This is WitE 1 experience, which I believe translates to WitE2.) A unit making a hasty attack cannot be assigned support units from the Corps HQ if a) it is outside the support range of the HQ (5 hexes) or b) if the Corps HQ has moved. So after the first few hexes, the mobile division would no longer be receiving support. Generally, I assign an engineer battalion to Panzer divisions and Panzerjaeger and Sturmgeschutz battalions to motorized divisions. (In addition to self propelled flak units.)

Thanks for the explanation.

Presumably when the Fronts stabilise that decision may change as Corps HQ are more likely to be static and in correct locations to allow the support units to help out multiple Divisions or am I missing something?

For me it depends on who I am playing. I can usually tell a persons play style by the 3rd turn if not before. Plus I normally have support units travel up to OKH starting turn 1 and really don't allocate those support units until turn 4 or later.

Decided to forgo any more interim posts on my game play in the middle of the turn and go to the end positions of my units. Without further ado here is the North.

Center southern section. Form a pocket here. Always looking to surround units. My last AAR game in BETA I was able to Kill/Surrender around 3.5 million Soviets by turn 23. I found it was not enough for my liking. So will be redoubling my efforts in this game.
