Was the IJN trying to invade Singapore, clearing mines, or just going through to another port? 18 January 1942 quote:
Naval Gun Fire at Singapore - Coastal Guns Fire Back! 7 Coastal gun shots fired in defense. Japanese Ships PB Seki Maru #3, Shell hits 7, Mine hits 1, heavy fires, heavy damage Singapore Fortress firing at PB Seki Maru #3 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TF 276 encounters mine field at Singapore (50,84) Japanese Ships PB Seki Maru #3, Mine hits 1, heavy fires, heavy damage xAK Katuragi Maru, Mine hits 1, heavy fires The next day, 19 January 1942: quote:

No unloading or anything noted, no troops lost either. So I think that the ships were trying to go to Jahore with supplies. I had evacuated Singapore of almost everything that I could but I did not leave enough supplies to repair four damaged Buffalo Is. Daily bombing used up the supplies since it appeared that the cannon cockers split their large CD gun shells with sledge hammers and wedges so they would fit into the AAA guns. So there was not much firing by the CD guns during the last combat. No ethnic jokes about mine detecting nor sweeping needed. The ground units captured Singapore that same day. The CV Soryo already is a deep sea fish house, as is a CVL while the BB Mutsu will become a post war diving attraction at Jolo with the Repulse credited with her sinking. With the Mutsu, I augmented Force Z with some (4?) UK CLs and a couple more DDs of which I lost the Dutch Banckert plus the Electra. I forgot to replace Admiral Tom. I do believe that an IJN CA also became a fish house from that battle.
