ORIGINAL: USSAmerica Here is another shot from where our driveway will meet the street. You can see most of the lumber for the house is already delivered. That's a great sign, as lumber costs and availability are a big concern for builders right now and this could have caused an additional delay. Looking good. Why is lumber an issue at the moment? I would have thought that US had all the lumber they needed produced in the States. That no international commerce was needed. What direction will your backyard face? Will you be able to drink your morning tea on the front porch and see the sun rise? Your house building is a source for inspiration. Glad you guys continue to be interested in the process, Orm! There is a lumber crunch in the US due to some supply side issues, with slowed production from raw trees to cut lumber due to the pandemic, as well as initial predictions that the demand would also plummet due to COVID. Instead, the housing market took off here like a rocket! So, demand quickly outpaced the reduced production for several months and they have not yet caught up. Housing prices are also skyrocketing for new construction as well as resale homes. We are very glad to have locked in our price back in September! The backyard will face East and the morning sun will rise over the trees in the back. We will have a fully screened porch in the back where we can sit and sip our morning coffee and enjoy the sunrise. That sounds very nice. Sunrise, coffee, the fragrance from a cow pasture . . .
