I live in lovely Fuchu Tokyo and a 5 minute bike ride from my house is one of the few visible reminders of the war in Tokyo

It is a bunker built to protect IJAA fighters from bombers. This area had an air field base nearby and a plane factory was not so far away either. Actually the Japanese SDF still has a base near here but alas no airfield (administrative functions only)

Love that last pic where some Japanese Children play baseball near it.

Do you know how tall it is and for what kind of aircraft it should have been used for? On the pictures it looks kind of small.

It is a dome-shaped reinforced concrete structure with an entrance width of 12.3 meters, height of 3.7 meters and depth of 12 meters. It was built in this size to accommodate the former Army Type 3 fighter "Hien" (wingspan 12.0 meters, total height 3.7 meters). Investigations have shown that when the "Hien" was actually stored, it was just barely large enough to have no room around it.

Yes, that is right. Even without measuring it only a single engine fighter could fit in it.

For modern Japanese (and thus the kids playing by it) it is a relic of a era gone by. So while there are nice descriptions (in Japanese) by the little park it is in, it is not...holy ground...
