9/16b:seems rather quite this turn. Now I know why, because John is setting up his 9/17 charter towers solution().

Readers be aware john has posted turn 17 results before I have seen replay from 17. I still post graphics from 9/16.

Graphics will show alot of night bombing on Cairns after that daylight raid a few game days ago. Allied recon showed airfield damage rating around 36%. with the moonlight getting better John is trying to shut dowm my night bombing before he loses the airfield.

I am elated to see John use the KB to help in his hopeless Townsville campaign.

LaFoa, New Caledonia

The Allies have demonstrated a willingness to fight at sea that has not been seen in 5-6 months. Today, CL Helena and 3 DDs sweep into the busy hex of LaFoa. The Japanese have been landing supplies and reinforcements here to aid the siege of Noumea. The Americans expect easy pickings as no STF has been spotted here recently at all.

They are stunned to find a freshly arrived (as in the-nick-of-time!) Japanese surface task force of 3 CAs and 6 DDs waiting for them.

The battle lasts for over 10 rounds and sees CL Helena SUNK as well as all three DDs smacked. Japanese take a single DD getting moderately damaged.

Very NICE result!

BETTER DAYS AHEAD...

The Australians find that they are bracketed by carrier forces this day.

To the east a major carrier TF strikes Townsville's AF with Sweeps and then a massed 150 Zero and 105 Kate Strike. This attack is done in conjunction with multiple land-based Sweeps and massed bomber raids totaling 110 fighters and 98 more bombers. Everything is focused on the enemy's Fighters and AF.

The surprise comes in the west when another substantial carrier TF appears south of Albany and Esperance and launches anti-shipping strikes sinking 3 TK, 2 AMc, 2 AKL, and 2 AM another 6 TF and DD are damaged and/or possibly sunk.

We have multiple sweeps (46 Fighters) hit Charters Towers as well.

Here are aerial results of the day with 57 Allied fighters destroyed:

Important Note:

This is not a one-sided turn. The Allies throw a small carrier force against the shipping around Noumea and LaFoa. Several Aussie, NZ, and British Torpedo planes attacks occur against shipping and warships. Additionally, an SBD unit and an A-24 unit repopulate Noumea's AF. Only Float Zeros defend LaFoa so the results are not too good. Japan loses 4 AK and have serious damage done to two CAs. Nicely done.

Am sure Paul will show some screenshots of that action.

Three irritating gnats (in the form of PT Boats) are sunk during the action as well.

Yes, a lot of indecisive, grinding action this turn.

Practice makes perfect. That is why when a doctor finally gets it right, he retires from the practice of medicine.

But should that heavy cruiser be named "Chishum(a)" in honor of John Wayne in said movie?

As far as the PT Boats go, they do make nice scouts. In one game, one PT boat put three torpedoes into a IJN Battleship to make a fish house.

Oh yes, In my last game with FatR I had a PT put 90 damage on the Musashi in shallow water off Rangoon. Musashi sat in singers the rest of the game.

Swabbies call AO Atlantic Ocean.
Ground Pounders(or Grunts) call AO "Area of Operations".

John, I sense your drooling.
1. For me this is the first time I have had every Ftr unit in AUS deployed at 100% CAP or at total rest from last turn combat. Continent wide including all trainers..

DROOLING pretty much sums it up. Have FINALLY forced a fight.

Day TWO of the Operation:
SWEEPS over Charters Towers. The enemy puts 72 Fighters up to oppose this. Japanese have 89 Fighters Sweep and then the Bombers come in with 83 dropping their loads on the AF.

Allied Attack on Japanese KB features the wholesale destruction of Aussie Beaufighters. Cannot shoot down the INVINCIBLE Naval Attack B-17 and B-24 but we can kill their escorts!

A squadron of SBD commit suicide over Koumac as well flying into 48 Fighters.

Results for the Day:

I have not seen the turn yet. So these are first glance conclusions.
1.. Looks like a fair result at ChT considering you got 80exp ftr pilots.
2.. losing 32 beaufighters as escort to get a chance to put a 500lb bomb into your hanger deck I consider to be the cost of doing business.
3.. all my 4e at ChT are on night bombing Cairns IJAAF airbase. So i did expect to see some destroyed 4e at ChT, but I see none listed on your BDA(battle damage assessment) report.
So, therefore:
4.. I like the fuel you expend to bomb CT.
5.. I like my level 5 fort at ChT w/4 eng units to repair your damage.
6.. I like the attrition you take with your pilots.
7.. I like the fatigue you place on your air frames.
In other words...

Don't have 80 experience pilots here at all. Have really noticed the difference since we dialed back the starting pilot numbers to reflect the expansion of the units, trainings, and other modifications! The 'elite' CV Daitai start an average of 10% or more LOWER on Dec 7th.

Looks like we are BOTH enjoying this then. LOVE IT!

Paul and I have coordinated getting another one in since the action is really heating up. Normally we get in a turn a day but sometimes do better. Since I have my match with Lew running as well, I try to keep them balanced.
