So it's 1942 in May.

Upon transfering several divisions from the Western Front to the Eastern front, [At 100% ToE] I am _horrified_ to discover that when they arrive on the Eastern Front they don't 'quite' have 100% ToE.

Every last man and gun and AFV is accounted for, but they have zero trucks. Not one.

To me this seemed like a problem. How many of my units are mysteriously missing trucks? I checked the commanders report. The production report. The logistics report.

I can't for the life of me see an easy way to determine 'Current Trucks' vs 'Needed Trucks' nor can I see a way to prioritise giving certain units trucks, beyond setting some units to static - But ensuring the trucks from those static units get sent to the units they need to go to and no elsewhere doesn't seem a thing.

I can't even see any options on the graphic screen to keep account of 'Total Trucks' or 'Needed Truck %' or 'Truck Losses'

I can see how many I'm producing, I'm pretty sure I can even see how many are in the pool. But as a % of unit requirements or how to manipulate those I'm loss.

I'm also pretty shocked ToE doesn't take into account organic trucks - Are these not part of the units ToE historically? How can a unit considered to be 100% refitted have none of its organic truck capacity?

do you mean from the Western Theatre or the Reserve Theatre? The rules are different

It came from the Western Theater, though I should note there's no shortage of trucks for any of the other divisions in that Theater.
Another Panzer division suffered the same fate, and it has taken over a month and they're still struggling for trucks. On the other hand several other divisions are reporting an excess of trucks.

It seems to be associated possibly with them having switched ToE while in the other theater? They had non-zero trucks prior to being upgraded.

[Also worth noting that both had 6 movement points, which seems extremely generous for a division with zero trucks what so ever. Static divisions have 1 movement point to represent their complete lack of mobility, I'm not sure why any other division would merit more.]

are they in a well supplied position on the map - I'd deploy them close to an NSS for a couple of turns, if you have spare trucks then the situation should improve.

also is this a scripted transfer or one that you did by choice?

They were moved from the Western Front Box, after spending three months there, to Berlin, then by Rail to a level four Deport. Upon arrival at the Deport, they had zero trucks.

This was a manual transfer.

how many trucks do you have in the overall pool? how many in the level 4 depot - and remember that priority is not really what draws trucks.

Truck shortages can get masked in the Theatres.

It's turn 48 and I am not in a complete mess so far.

What mess are we due to get into?

well if you overcommit to the Soviet front, this sort of thing, also as the game progresses the moves needed to balance the Theatres gets more and more complex - requirements increase, many units have multiple transfers (& if you clear one, you clear them all).

Pragmatically, I'd send these units back to Berlin to draw trucks from the NSS.

I'm not sure I follow here - This unit spent a month off map, a week sat outside Berlin, and then migrated by rail to the front line arriving with zero trucks, not less than it should, not 90% or 40% but not a single truck in sight, and you think I should send it back for a few months hanging around?

And this definately isn't a result of overcommitting to the Russian front, all my Theaterboxes are between 110% and 150% of required capacity. If anything this is undercommiting, surely?

Also is the number of trucks in the reciving deport relevent? Organic trucks are surely part of the unit, if you move a unit by rail it isn't leaving behind every single truck it has at the start, and then picking up an entire batch of new trucks when it arrives, is it? If I move unit X from A to B, aside from breakdowns it should arrive with the same number of trucks it left A with, right?

I find the truck information in the game underwhelming.

It would be nice to see more graphs and infos to pinpoint where your trucks are bleeding and how fast you lose them.

There's good information in the logistic summary each turn but it's not easy to parse and some of the good information is buried in other sections instead of being highlighted prominently (for instance it shows you how many trucks you lost due to expended MP last turn and for entire game, but it's two single lines buried in the Supply section of the logistics log iirc).

It would be nice if someone could put up a quick guide of how to assess and manage german trucks. I have no idea what numbers are normal and what is bad (how much pool of trucks should I aim for at what point in the campaign etc)

Also a graph of trucks available/pool/losses/repair (like manpower) would be nice. Otherwise it will be hard to follow the development

Added the request for more truck info to the Feature Suggestions, I agree that an easy way to track truck usage is critical!

It's one of those things where the game tells you but it's not always apparent what to do with the information. I'd say the most helpful thing is to look at the Supply report for Location in the Commanders Report and there you can filter to see which depots used a lot of trucks and which ones were underutilized. This could help you figure out how to change priority.

Secondly, in the Logistics Report it does have 2 lines that say how many trucks were lost to movement for the past turn and for the game. The per turn might be bugged (my only shows 0), but I think the number is important because it can show you if you're burning too many trucks but moving your units too much each turn.

Again, however, the same issue is the game doesn't have a lot of context to tell you whether a certain number is good or bad. The only context with trucks it gives is in the production screen and shows you total trucks available and in parentheses shows how many are needed in units. So if the available in units is less than the need, you know your units don't have enough trucks. This can be filled with the trucks in pool, but you also want those for depots, too.

I'd say with most things in this game a lot of the data is good, but you need to run tests or just through lots of experience determine whether its good or bad. I'll try to continue to share my observations as I play more.
