Going to list some GUI improvements that I have in mind here, feel free to add your own to the thread!

I'm trying to keep suggestions on a "easy to implement" level, nothing fancy, just small improvements :)

Here's something for the Air Directive side UI:
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4995831

Railyard size display:
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4995798

Jump to unit:
In any unit window, left-clicking the unit counter should center the view to the unit that is shown (or add a separate "center on unit"-button). Following an HQ chain from unit window is a nice feature, but it's kind of frustrating that you can't jump to the selected HQ/unit when you have it's window open. You can kind of circumvent this by following the chain with PgUp/Dn and Home/End keys, but a single click jump would make it easier and more intuitive.

Add more values to metrics! There's nothing about vehicles/motor pool in the metrics, that's one of the values that's quite important to follow.

Also some of the values on the left would be better off to be placed below the table as filterable values. Fuel/Oil/Supply/Resources could be all in same view, just set them to be filterable. Same for Men/Guns/AFV/Aircraft.

Some metrics values could use a selection to see cumulative value, losses for example, and maybe trucks lost if that's added.

Since the left panel is scrollable, I'm hoping that there would be as much stuff added here as possible! Best metrics = more metrics, presented in a manner that it's not cluttering the UI. Following the amount of certain elements (different panzer models etc) would be cool, and probably simple to add.

a hotkey or a small button on the side panel to disband a unit.
Right now you have to click on unit, move mouse to side panel, right-click on unit in side panel, come back to center panel, click on disband, and click on confirmation window.

Have the commander ratings for the various HQs included in the OOB screen.

How about a button to bypass the air execution directives? There might be a reason you might want your air force to do nothing for one turn, just rest and re-equip.

You can't skip the Air Execution Phase because some missions occur in both friendly and enemy phases. Specifically Naval Patrol.

You can do this quite fast in the Air Directive list screen on the Air Phase, just untap all directives you've set up, and those will be skipped.

But you're actually right, there could be a box/command to unmark all directives from one Air Command, or unmark ALL directives, with a confirmation pop-up for these. Could be useful on bad weather turns etc.

I'm not sure if I ever disbanded a unit during my hundreds of hours in WitE1, so at least in my case that button would be gathering dust :D But any improvement to the GUI that doesn't obstruct any other functionality is a good improvement!

Now for my new GUI suggestion:

since there's already a "missing from units" number on the production screen (the red negative), why not add a "ready / damaged" info right there too?

These can be actually seen from the CR report that pops up if you press the "UNITS" number, but would be a nice overview addition on the production screen. Or maybe add the "missing from max" number viewable in the commanders report?

Also maybe make the production screen left hand list items collapsible or filterable, ie expand/filter by nation and type.

Improvement suggestion for Commander's Report:

would it be possible to add an "Average" and "Total" line either on the bottom of the report or just on top of the list? They could be filtered to be not shown when you don't need them.

Could be really useful to check certain things like average experience/morale in formations, total losses in certain kind of battles etc etc.

Landmarks on the weather map. I would prefer to have at least important cities like leningrad,Moscow, Odessa etc. Marked on the weather map.

Sometimes it is difficult to see what area is rainy etc.

There are a lot of links and actions accessible through tabs where you have to click on the letters/numbers. It would be a lot less fiddly if the entire tab or areas surrounding letters/numbers were linked.

Would be good to be able to drag and reshape air mission areas.

,
Yes, always square so resize, not reshape.

Add a LOSSES-tab to the UNIT INFO-screens next to the ELEMENTS and ASSIGNED tabs.

This screen would include casualties both taken by this PARTICULAR unit as well as casualties inflicted by this unit on the enemy.

HQ-screens would include all units below it.

It would be helpful if the colour key of the weather map corresponded with colours actually on the weather map.

On some of the unit windows (at least in theatre/reinforcement screen I think?) there's a "location" link that immediately centers the map on the unit. This should be active on every window, or whenever you click the unit counter.

Currently you cant center the map from unit window, or am I missing a hotkey/button for this?

Add a few pixels to the height of the battle summary screen. That way, the last line will be fully displayed, and the user would no longer have to scroll in order to read that last line.

When hovering the mouse over a city, surely it would be far more useful for the number to be displayed in brackets to be the railyard size, rather than population size?

Players are constantly looking to check the former, and never looking to check the latter.
