Well, crossing Dnepr on T2 did put me in utter depression. At least some cavalrists got lucky.

Turn 2 End

Here are the end of turn 2 Highlights before moving on to turn 3

Keep an eye on the Soviet Infantry Division to the North East in this picture close to the regiment. On turn 3 this division is no longer there. What happened to it? Airlifted out? But I have a ton of fighter in this area you would think they would have intercepted. Soviet withdraw? Anyone help me out here?

Not certain it's happened here but I'm pretty sure I've had a pocketed unit in contact with the enemy shatter at the start of the turn. I'm guessing some combination of a morale drop for being pocketed, damaged/lost elements it can't replace and attrition did it.

Well, I think the forums are more pro-defender than pro-soviet. The game has been very fine tuned, but the biggest remaining issues generally favor the attacker (multistack hasties are insufficiently penalized in time and efficacy, overly easy AFV maintenance allows extended overland moves away from support, comparative ease of getting logistics over river lines that means crossing the Dnepr or the Vistula doesn’t incur a delay while getting support infrastructure built up far side or have log canalized along the bridges) - we all like to root for the underdog. Once players get over the systems familiarization phase, the few remaining issues tend to make the early and late war defender that guy.

Hi Carlkay, the 110s were not designed with night fighting in mind. They were modified to serve as night fighters.

About the F2 operational losses - they do seem to be relatively unreliable (@ 15 compared to 5 for a FW-190) so the combination with flying @ night with (slight) damage and reliability issues might be causing them to crash.... Doesn't help that those are 100% pilot losses....

Regarding the night bombing of railyards and manpower -> way to accurate and effective. The Soviets did not have the bombload nor the navigation equipment to do that kind of damage....

Ya, I am getting rail yard bombarded in both games relentlessly. Granted the Soviets are taking a great deal of casualties. But the end result is there are only a few double lines that the Germans can use in 41 and makes for easy targeting by the Soviets to reduce the rail yards. Seems kind of cheesy to me but I am not going to house rule it out at the moment to see how this plays out. I have started converting single lines locations with railyards to circumvent some of these bombings, I hope :-)

But, yes Sir you are correct from my observations.

Vitebsk

Made a good leap towards Vitebsk this turn. Been using Ground Support to good effect. Think I will be setting it up to be used all the time now to draw out Soviet fighters. (units hidden in photo because this is in real time with Bobo with the turn)

Near Polotsk

I did not put all the bombers to bomb. I had set some of the bombers to rest so they would not participate in every battle. This way I can try and control operational losses by only flying 1 may 2 missions at most per squadron. I LOVE using the Ju-87's now :-)

Gomel

I am pushing the center & take Gomel. Will see how the Soviets react next turn. Could get interesting fast. Infantry is extremely close now :)

4th Attack & way is open. I am conservative in thrust to stay in cover instead of clear terrain unless I have to under threat of Soviet counter-attack.

The Soviets were no where to be found on Recon. If going by normal games I would surmise that the Soviets are just to the rivers in front of the lead PZ's formation. That is if 821Bobo didn't do a full blown retreat which I don't think he would have done. So I pick up a great deal of mileage. There is also only 3 hexes left to close off the Marshes. This will be closed next turn and supply should pass to those lead units from the Center.

Air losses

Well this turn hurt because of the interception of Night bombing. The operational loss there hurt a great deal, but lesson has been learned and understood for WITE2. With those losses aside I would say it was not a bad turn in the air. But with them makes me want to cry.
