I would like to change some surnames for the pilots. Seems that the first names are generated randomly, but doesn´t matter.

What I did..

1. Load generic data in editor
2. Exported the pilot names CSV in editor and changed some surnames in the CSV
3. Imported my new CSV file in editor
4. Checked Checkbox for saveing pilot names dat and saved generic data

Now when starting a new game or loading any older save game, my new pilot names are not there, still the old one.

I also tested ingame with Commanders Report and clicked "Add Pilots", but did not help.

Can anyone help? Thanks!

PS: Is there a editor manual out there? Maybe WitE1 got one?

thanks,

Old thread WitE1
here is the thread:
"Open the scenario in the Editor - Go to the Comd's Report Air Groups Tab - select 'Pilots' - select 'SHOW LIST' - click 'ADD NAMED PILOTS'"
-----------

Seems to be different with WitE2 editor > Cannot find 'SHOW LIST' in WitE2 editor

If anyone knows how to do, please answer here again

You may try the following -

1/ Load the scenario (not the generic data) you wish to add the pilot to the Editor
2/ Export the xxx_PilotName.csv [Edit: should be xxx_Pilot.csv]
3/ Add the pilot you want to the end. You have to identify the airgroup# in the Editor, and specify it in the group column of the csv file
4/ Import the amended xxx_PilotName.csv

You should be able to see the newly added pilot in your selected airgroup now. As an example, I have successfully added the pilot "A.Testing" to the German airgroup Stab/KG 1 in a scenario and the changes stayed after starting a new game with the amended scenario.

Edit: if you just want to change the name of an existing pilot, just find the pilot name to be changed in the exported xxx_PilotName.csv file and amend directly.

Thanks, I tested it and I am sure you mean the xxx_Pilot.csv file which has to be edited. By editing the xxx_Pilot.csv, I was able to change a pilot name and to add a new pilot. Thanks for your help!

But do you have any idea what the file xxx_PilotName.csv is for?

I think this exported file contains the pool of names that the game draws from when creating new named pilots. I have tested it in the Editor environment by changing all the names in the pool to "AA" and then adding new pilots to airgroup. Newly added pilots all have the name x.AA.

Section 16.7.3 of the Manual seems to suggest that airgroups sent to the National Reserve will have their named pilot removed and new named pilot will be generated when transferring back to the Map. I think if we want to have the newly added/amended pilot name to be retained, either we have to avoid sending the airgroup to the National Reserve., or we may have to amend this name pool for a longer term solution.

However, I find that changes to a scenario's xxx_PilotName.csv will always be overwritten by the generic data whenever the scenario is reloaded. I guess changes to the name pool have to be made to the Generic data for the amendments to stay, but have not tested it.
